bump bump please

advise from seniors please

I visited all the Ivies and I will be applying to Yale(SCEA). My chances please?

I think you have a great shot at all of those schools, even the Ivies (though still reaches). I think Yale SCEA isn’t a bad option at all. Good luck!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/758832-chances-i-begin-my-apps.html

Write a good essay and put your best foot forward on interview and I see no reason you won’t get in. Btw very good choice on Yale SCEA :)!

As for a suggestion, make sure you communicate that passion that you obviously possess well. Sell that and I think you’ll have a clear shot in. Good Luck and hope to see you at Yale!

Ok. First of all: 3 papers? I’ve been doing Stem Cell research for 4 years and I know how hard it is to get a paper published. Are you the first author? If not, say so in your application. It is obvious to the adcom… But other than that, you are on ur way… at least I hope so, since we have VERY similar credentials Although I have a lower SAT score , taken only once: 770 CR 800 M 740 W (2310)

Hey I was wondering how the AMC works and how I could register and what math I need to register

Hi, im a rising sophmore goodluck and I am about to begin an internship at hamilton college and would like to publish some research papers there. I know this is a very difficult task but could you give me some advice on how to do this. Then, one day when I’m a senior I would like to enter STS or siemens. Also, I would like to attend an Ivy like Harvard or Yale one day as well. Your Indian dance thing is pretty intersting as I am from Pakistan. Also, I am going to begin entering some state science fairs this year as well and do you have any tips ot help me succeed at the AMC and what math would I need for it.

TheShiningSun,

Thank you very much, I’m assuming you were admitted SCEA to Yale this past year? congrats and yes hopefully I will be able to do the same hehe

Selectum,

The American Association for Biochem and Molecular Bio paper was essentially a bigger award at a regional science fair for my research. I will have a small biography and my paper published under my name in their journal, so I am not exactly sure if this is a “first authorship”.

As for the Cancer Research and Neurochemistry papers, they are for the same research, and both will be in my name as second author (first authorship went under the mentor I worked with). The Neurochemistry publication was actually a poster presentation at their national convention in Charleston, SC, and a small abstract publication as well I think.

However, I am doing more research this summer (actually I am about to finish) and if published, I will be first author under this latest work :]

sohaibshaikh,

the AMC is one test in a series of exams to determine who represents the US in the International Math Olympiad. SInce you’re a sophomre, you can actually take either the AMC 10 or AMC 12. The math that appears on these tests is quite difficult and usually not taught in a regular math class (atleast, not a math class in SC :p), but I suggest you look at the website artofproblemsolving.com and check out their forum, threads, and bookstore. It is an excellent site to develop your AMC-type math skills. Good Luck!

Can I just ask how everyone was able to take so many AP classes? Even if I completely filled my junior schedule with IB classes, I still wouldn’t even have the same amount of test scores as some people…

I would guess in at one or more of HYPSM.

Lol. You sound kinda familiar.
I’m on our math team too :P.
I guess I’ll PM you.

In terms of your chances, I’ll just echo everyone here and say they’re phenomenal.

good academics, math isn’t amazing (didn’t make usamo), your research looks good, I hope you didn’t just borrow it from your mentor.

What are you worried about? Anywhere you wind up, you will thrive at. You already have proved your smarts and drive. By the way you don’t need good luck with your credentials.

Decent stats, but HYPSM is hit and miss. You’ll have an OK chance

Decent stats, agreed with statement that HYPSM is a hit and miss. I’m applying to all those too, with similar stats. Good luck to both of us!

hi there… not that you´d need any more honest opinions, since we all tell you more or less the same- but just to boost your confidence a little more i think you most likely get accepted by all those schools, ivies included! maybe one or too reject you because there are sooo many other candidates and they simply can´t take them all, but i think you are pretty much what every school can dream of. take your time to write the essays and make them say a lot about you as a person, and the interview… well it´s not even required, and i mean, what could go wrong that nullifies these stats? good luck!
chance me back please (got a lot worse shot than you, i envy you ^^)

Very nice stats!

But, my graduating class has about 750 students, the valedictorian almost always has a 6.0 GPA, my school is rated in the top 100 in the nation and people with 5.0 GPA’s are not even in the top 10% and there are tons of other schools out there like this

my guidance counselor told me that the colleges look at the schools you came from

how do you have over a 5.0 weighted?

I am not really sure, maybe because we are an IB school? it has always been like that…
IB and AP students both can have a weighted GPA up to 6.0 in our school and the regular class students can have a weighted GPA up to 5.0
