Chance me to UCI and UC Davis

Hello I am a senior whose planning to apply to UCI and UC Davis for molecular + genetic major. My statics are the following:
GPA Type: Cal Grant is 3.7241, from 10th+11th grades
GPA Type: College Weighted is 3.7857, up to 11th grade plus a challenge test i took the first week of senior year.
GPA Type: Overall is 3.2045, counting all the classes i ever took(including failed classes)
I took all regular class from 10th-11th except a honor us history and a 5 on chinese ap test during junior year.
I am currently taking 2 ap, 2 honor, 2 reg, classes and is confident to maintain all the As
My sat 1: math 580, cr 500, writing 530. I am taking it again in oct 9(tomorrow) and December
My sat 2: I have not take any, but planning to take Chinese (800 score guaranteed), bio ( 550-700), us history (550-680), btw i got those scores off the practice tests i took on McGraw prep tests.
I would have around 50-70 hours of community hours before i sent out my application before the nov 30 deadline.

Could some one tell me what is my chance to get into UCI or UC Davis with my current stats? If there some ways i can increase my chance? How much a difference would it be if i were able to bring my 1610 sat to 1700? What quality should my uc statement essay be like? Please help me guys and thanks for reading this.

not to be a downer but

25th - 50th - 75th Percentile
GPA: 3.63 - 3.80 - 3.90
SAT I: 1950 - 2100 - 2190
Selectivity Index™: 692 - 794 - 864

Unweighted gpa

Sign up for the ACT which is oct 23rd…even a 26 will look better than the current 1610. I’m only saying this because I’m in the same position as you and have been instructed to take the ACT. From the practice tests that I have taken, its seems EASY. Your GPA seems lowish and I dont think you can work on that now but GREAT personal statements should compensate for the low GPA somewhat.

GREAT personal statements should compensate for the low GPA somewhat.

^ Good advice from syedmannan re. taking the ACT but GPA is looked at with slightly more emphasis than test scores at the UC’s. Also apply to UCR, UCM, and UCSC. Same application, just some additional app fees.

With your current stats, your chances are looking slim. You need at least an 1850+ imo. Heed the advice and take the ACT, it is a completely different test from the SAT.

I’d hate to do this to you but I wouldn’t count on getting in Irvine, much less Davis. Your GPA may be somewhat competitive but with absolutely no AP classes in your critical years, very little extracurricular involvement, and an SAT of that level, the odds are stacked against you. There are ways. I hope you’ve raised that SAT score at least to a 1900. If you do as well as you are predicting on the SAT II’s, that might help. Write a superb personal statement. You might persuade UCI. Not sure about Davis though. Also, don’t apply for UCM or any other school if you don’t plan on going there, honestly. I regret applying to UCR, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSU Long Beach. The cost really does add up.

I find that hard to believe, I got into UCI with a 1780. Granted my unweighted gpa was like a 3.9, but still.

yeah got into both uci and ucdavis lolol ucsd ucsb rejected

what were your final SAT and ACT scores? I’m sorry, I’m seriously frantic right now, UC sends out their letters this month, and I believe UCI and UCD are first. I scored the same SAT 1610, and have a serious load of ECs. GPA overall 3.7 overall, but everyone else on college confidential makes it seem like i’m going no where.

@obeymei, did you notice the date on these posts?

yeah, i did. it’s the same year my brother graduated. he got into irvine with fairly low SAT scores, and an average GPA.

5 years will make a huge difference on the competitiveness of the applicant pool. Each year UCI and UCD, become more competitive, so the Stats that some applicants were accepted with 5 years ago will not hold true now.
