So, I'm currently attending community college in NY but will applying to transfer at some point this year. My plan is to either enroll at a 4-year school in the Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 depending on course availability at my current school.

Right now I have a GPA of 2.73, but this is due to failing an entire semester due to illness (but being unable to drop classes because of health insurance eligibility.) I'm not going to try to appeal or downplay the bad semester, but I have been retaking the classes that I messed up on as they became available. After this semester, I'll have one more to take. Assuming I get an A on the one I'm taking now (all but definite) and that I also get an As/B+s on the other classes, I'll have a GPA between 3.2 and 3.3.

Now, I have the option of applying to transfer once I complete this semester, at which point I'll have the before mentioned GPA and limited ECs - mainly just engineering club. My concern is that a 3.2-3.3 won't be high enough and that I should wait until I make up the other failing grade. I also won't have my associates at this point.

If I wait until I finish my associates and retake the last failed class, my GPA should fall somewhere between a 3.5 and 3.7 (what I've been getting for the other semesters.)

Relevant courses taken so far: General Chemistry I&II, Organic Chemistry I, Calc I,II,&III, General Bio I, and Engineering Physics I.

I plan on doing another semester of organic, diff. eq, another semester of bio, and one or two more of physics (depending on when I transfer.)

Additional information that might be relevant: I'm a high school dropout with a HS GPA of about 3.0 and a GED score of 3800. I scored a 5 on AP Calculus AB exam. I'm a NASM certified personal trainer, run a website, am an administrator on a creative writing website, and have done SEO for several clients. SAT scores were 720 Reading, 700 Math, and 590 writing. Can get a decent recommendation letter from at least two professors. I also have very, very low attendance--15%, maybe. I'm trying to rectify this, but I have a hard time going to class if I can just teach myself out of the textbook.

I'm applying for biomedical engineering, but I'll also take chemical or biochemical/molecular engineering.

Schools I'd like opinions on:

UB
RPI
UCSD
NCSU

UC Berkeley

NYU
Manhattan College
