Hi,

I have 36 credit hours from the University of South Carolina -Columbia (main campus) with a cummulative gpa of 3.86. I just finished my freshman year so I'm considering UMD for the Spring of 2011 or Fall of 2012. Also I'm a maryland resident. Some EC's: I've done community service, part of a fraternity, did ROTC (all at University of South Carolina). UMD is much cheaper since I'd be in state and its a little bit better academic wise, that's why I'm considering UMD.

Thanks,
Alex

Your GPA is very good. Since you have just few extra-currics, make sure you mention how weighty each has been (i. e. if you had a leadership position, etc). I agree - you cannot beat UMD in terms of price for the education you’ll be getting. What major are you thinking of?

Overall, good chance of getting in.

From past (successful) transfer students, the main factor seems to be your collegiate GPA. Your high GPA, combined with you being an in-state student would make it most likely that you’d be accepted. I doubt that your ECs will play a big role in the decision (it might if your GPA were lower), but by all means talk about them. Good luck.

p.s. as a NC resident with 2 Ds at UMD, I would say that UMD will be much better academically than USC.
