Majoring in pure mathematics (Mathematics B.S)
GPA: 3.77 up to Fall semester. 3.8 Including Winter Intersession. Major GPA: 3.5 (Don’t think they care about this though)
Finished all major pre-req courses already (I heard they don’t really use this as a factor for admission)
Will be certified IGETC prior to transferring
Misc. Info.
Trying as a first year transfer. Passed 6 AP tests (Biology, Enviro. Science, Calculus AB, English Lit and Lang, Macroecon). Not much extracurricular during my year in CC, only have a part time private math tutoring job and I’m a student aid for my professor. Lots of high school awards and extracurricular, such as volunteering and varsity sports. I’m not going to in depth because I heard they don’t really care about high school extracurriculars for transfers, and I heard they just mainly care about GPA and IGETC completion in general.
Also I have a question if anyone could help me on this. As of this spring semester/winter quarter, I am taking a total of 11 Semester units and 5 quarter unit courses (4 courses in total, also taking one 3.5 quarter unit course but it’s not UC transferable). If I go through and take all of these courses for this semester/quarter, I will have completed 55 semester units and of course the AP units will take care of the rest to get me the required 60 units to transfer. However, I want to drop one of my courses, it’s calculus based physics which is a 5 semester unit course, so if I drop that, by the end of the semester I will have only completed 50 semester units. I still will have enough to transfer because of my AP tests, and Physics is not a required major pre-req courses and I still will complete IGETC because my AP tests will cover that course area. Should I go through with physics, or would it be okay to drop it and it most likely won’t harm my admission? I’m scared that I won’t do well because my teacher is very very terrible at teaching, and I do much better in classes with professors that can actually teach well. But I’m also scared that UCSD might want to see more units completed at the college instead of using AP units to cover for the required 60 semester units. So any advice on this would be very helpful.
Thank you for chancing me as well!
