How much does the IGETC matter for UC; LA, B, SD

Hello, I am currently in my first year of community college with one semester completed thus far. I have obtained a 3.31 GPA and hope to go to one of these top schools, specifically UCLA.

I currently have two options before me;

I can apply as a transfer student for Mathematics (with hopefully a much better GPA) and have all but two Major pre requisites done for transfer ( a computer science course that my CC doesn't have and a third semester of physics that I wont be able to fit in due to second semester physics pre req) I will also have all the IGETC complete except for the foreign languages. And no, I do not meet the high school language alternative.

OR
2. I can complete the IGETC and be missing around 4 or 5 major pre requisites.

I also plan to apply for a TAG agreement to one of the UC's (not yet decided).
I appreciate any and all advice on how to get into one of these top schools. It is not the end of the world for myself if I do not get accepted, but I want to at least give it my best shot. I am sure I will be more than happy at another UC. Just something I want to strive for though. I am taking Calculus 1 over the summer in order to catch up do to having to start at a low level. I never even completed high school, I had a 1.8 GPA unfortunately.

IGETC is not an admissions requirement.

For Berkeley’s College of Letters and Sciences, however, you need to complete IGETC by the end of spring prior to transfer.

Just keep up that GPA and you can have a great shot at schools.

Why don’t you attend the community college for another year and have everything completed? Many departments at UCB and UCLA reject you for not having prerequisites completed. Try also summer and winter semesters. I used to work full time and take 16 units during regular semesters and 8 during summer.

For UCLA you can increase your chances by taking part in the TAP program if your CC offers it. See http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/tap/
