Chance me UC Berkeley Transfer.

Major: Political Science (when I transfer I’m going to apply to double major in Econ as well)
GPA: 3.25
Major GPA: 4.00
Transferring in one year
CCC student

Taking 19 credits fall 2017, 22 spring 2018, took 12 Summer 2017, have 18 credits AP that are bringing me to 68 credits total for UC transferrable.

I got a D in my Microeconomics course in the beginning of the summer, the first week coinciding with my finals week and graduation week of high school, but once the six week session for summer started, I was taking three other classes: Macro, and two Poli Sci classes, I got all A’s in them. I’m retaking Micro in the Spring, I’ve explained this on the Additional Comments Section of my application per Berkeley admission officer advice.

EC’s:
Due to doing this in one year I don’t really have time for many
I tutor at a tutoring place 10 hours a week.
I tutor personally on the side about 15 hours a week.
I have a family obligations, both parents work, my sister is 10 so I have to stay home and take care of her.
I write online, more a hobby really.

I’ve tried looking into clubs, but all the meeting times coincide with my class times, and the volunteer clubs all have events on Saturdays, Fridays, which I work, and Sundays which are my study day really.

My PIQs: Got them reviewed during Berkeley drop-in counseling sessions for transfer twice, the second time, the officer said that they were quite good, and definitely strong.

A bit unsure as to my chances though?
I’m applying UCLA and UCSD as well.

Thank you in advance!

Hi there! I was accepted to both UCLA and UC Berkeley this past June. It was a super tough decision but I’m in the middle of my 1st quarter as a Bruin.

I think that UCSD is very GPA driven so your chances would be harder there. With UCLA, a good personal story that shows unique circumstances can go a long way. With UC Berkeley, I would suggest trying for a not as competitive major. Contrary to popular belief, you can always switch your major once you get into the school. You just have to do it quickly and have a valid and strong argument.

Hopefully that helped! Good luck!

Thank you, I’m aware of the major switch, but I heard they admit you by college not major? Or is it different for transfers? Also, as for GPA, after my fall semester, my GPA will go up to a 3.7, which is in the GPA range for Berkeley.
