I know I have a bad SAT, I have been studying, should be around 1700.

Aim for at least 1900+ on your SAT for the most of the UC’s. Your GPA looks competitive. For Cal Poly SLO, you have to declare a major and Bio can be competitive plus you need to include your 9th grades in your UC GPA for SLO only.
CPP: Safety
SJSU: Low Match
UCSC: Match
UCI: High Match
UCSB/UCD: Low Reach/High Match (depending upon new SAT score)
UCB/UCLA: Reach

@harmansingh: What is this someone’s major?? Type of major will have an impact on admissions along with EC’s and essays. My older son had a UC GPA of 4.2 and an ACT of 26, but great EC’s and essays. He also picked a major: Environmental Science and Resource Management which is not as a competitive as Bio. Take a look at the common data set for UCD so see how you stack up. Although most of the UC’s focus on GPA and test scores, many times a good essay and unique EC’s may tip the scales. You never know what is in the minds of admissions. All you can do is apply and hope for the best.

You can go to a Community College for 2 years and do TAG for UCD or UCSB or UCI (UCB/UCSD/UCB do not offer TAG) and then transfer. If you are really interested in Cal Poly SLO, you can go to Cuesta College which is the CC feeder for SLO. Is this what you mean by backdoor methods?

You don’t mention what classes you have taken. Your UCGPA is good for a lot of UC’s, but many lf those kids will have taken any A-G’s and many AP’s and honors. I imagine IB classes are similar. If so, you should do well in the Cal public admissions, alhough maybe not UCLA, Cal, or UCSD well. But it’s not just about getting in, it is also about getting out!

IB is considered more difficult then AP, and Honors, according to my counselor. I have taken already my A-G courses.
I’m most worried about UCDAVIS, thats the school that I really want to get into.

Your course rigor and GPA are not the problem with your stats. It is your low SAT. If you can get your SAT score up then you have a good chance at UCD. Make sure you spend time on your essays and make them shine.

I don’t have any more to add, I’m just trying to wrap my head around why you do so well in IB classes, but not better on the SAT. To me it’s not just about “getting a score up” during a test, but solid math skills, and maybe intuition. Hard work is important too, and it seems like you’ve got that covered.

Maybe you should try a subject test if there is time. At least Math 2 to show proficiency in pre calc skills. I THINK math two has some pre-calc.
