Chance Me! (UCLA Bizecon and Haas)

I typed up my academic history up until now (includes spring 2008 semester), and I added classes I plan to take in the future and the grades I hope to get.

I'm currently a freshman at IVC and I'd like to transfer to UCLA's bizecon program or (yeah, I'm dreaming) UCB's Haas School of Business.

Unfortunately, 2 writing classes, 2 psychology classes, and an anthropology class all dragged me down quite a bit (argh), so I'm wondering what you guys think are my chances of getting into either school.

But since I'm applying to Business Economics and Business Administration majors, do you think that maybe they won't put too much emphasis on those relatively irrelevant classes? Despite my grades in Writing, I am a good writer and I plan to have above-average application essays.

(reminder: they'll be making the decision before spring 2009 even starts, so you should probably ignore that last GPA)

(another reminder: in all honestly, I probably won't be getting all A's from now on, so that's something to consider >_<)

...also, having good SAT scores won't help me as a transfer student, correct? :|

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

SAT won't help
Not discouraging you, but the chance for u to get into Haas is almost 0. For Biz Econ, you need to raise your GPA up to at least 3.6 to have a little chance to get accepted (3.7 or more would be safe if u can write essays well along with some ECs

Damn, 9 hours of SAT testing, 9 hour of SAT II testing, 6 hours of PSAT testing, and God-knows-how-many-hours of SAT prep all for nothing. >_<

Bah, I'm so angry for letting myself get B's and C's in "easy" social science classes. -_-

Thanks for your input. =[

3.6 biz econ ... With Tap Maybe

^ Oh yeah, I forgot to add that 5 of these classes will be honors, and thus I'll be TAP-qualified by the end of fall 2009.

great, but still, keep raising your GPA. TAP alone is still not safe

yeah i already know someone who had TAP with a 3.6 and still got rejected for biz econ...i think haas is out of your reach though in all honesty.

just curious but what was your SAT score?

SAT Reasoning Test
Verbal: 700 (95 percentile)
Mathematics: 760 (98 percentile)
Writing: 730 (98 percentile)
Composite: 2190

ACT Assessment
English: 34 (99 percentile)
Mathematics: 26 (85 percentile)
Reading: 31 (94 percentile)
Science: 25 (85 percentile)
Composite: 29 (95 percentile)

Not really great but it's probably more impressive than my college record. >_<

that's a real good score...why did you choose to go the CC route? bad high school gpa?

Well, my high school gpa was 3.7, which isn't exactly great but it was good enough to get me into UCI and presumably most of the other UC's. But tuition is so damn expensive, and the most recent tax records I could give to FAFSA were from 2005, so they didn't account for the fact that my dad quit his telecommunications job in 2007 for a position as a Ralph's cashier (he's getting old). >_<

So...yeah, I blew my entire high school academic record to save a couple thousand dollars on lower division courses. :|

make sure you take the right calculus classes....ucb gives you an option, but ucla and the other ucs want the 5 unit one (not the 3 unit one)

if you wanna go to Ber, apply to it's Econ, its competitive level is about the same as LA. Try hard in your GPA and essay, you have pretty big chance if your PS is good enough (it should not be hard to you). you can get into at least 1 if not both

^ PS = ?

Post-secondary?

PS = personal statement

Your chances at Berkeley for either econ or HAAS is pretty slim. If you complete TAP, while maintaining your GPA, you will dramatically improve your chances at LA. At 3.7 GPA w/ TAP I'd say you would have a 70% chance of acceptance.

but i thought a ton of 3.8+ got rejected with tap this year? >_>

Guys, do you think it's worth it to take two extra classes this summer to bring my GPA from a 3.59 to a 3.63? The classes don't have anything to do with my majors, and they're not honors, but if I can get A's in both of them (as well as the other two I'll already bee taking), then I'd be able to boost my GPA up 0.04 points...

if they're UC transferrable and you feel confident enough to get an A in both of them then i would definitely go for it.

a TON of 3.8 + with tap getting rejected? Please.....

Anyone rejected with that high of a gpa and tap was rejected for a good reason...

and what would the good reason be? >_>
