Chance me UMich/ OhioStateU/ UCincinnati

Hi! Can you chance me for University of Michigan, Ohio State University, and University of Cincinnati?

-Junior
-White
-Male
-Private Christian School
-GPA: 3.95
-ACT: 28 (taken twice - did worse on my second try… planning on taking two more times. Hoping for a 29-30)
-Middle class (economic)
-Intended major: Math or Engineering (have not decided)

Our school does not have any AP classes, but instead we have college level classes that are taught by nearby professors that come to our school. The following classes I’ll have taken by the time I graduate are college classes:
-Psychology, Sociology, English Composition 1, English Composition 2, Calculus 1, Statistics, Western Civilization, Survey of the Holocaust
-Other class information: I have pretty much taken all the college classes my school has to offer and will take the only honors course available to me my senior year (english). I have way more credits than are what required (5-6 science, math, history, english). Comparably I’d say my schedule has been as rigorous as I have been able to make it.

EC’s:
-3 years of Track and Field (JR. High as well, got Coach’s Award and MVP during JH)
-2 years National Honor Society member
-2 years Mu-Alpha Theta member (math society)
-Helped design and construct a 9-hole local disc golf course in my small town. Played a big role in setting it up (was thanked in the grand opening publicly, etc.)
-Started/ am part of a book club (2 years) (only ~5 members)
-Photography awards (Participation in Congressional Art Show, Special Recognition in the Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition for two pictures, two honorable mentions in the Scholastic Art Show)
-Interned and stood in on engineering projects at a company (Diamond Power) (SEE BELOW)
-Senior Project. Our school requires that every senior do a senior project which is a year-long project that provides students with a learning experience, along with a research paper. Since I may go into engineering, my senior project will be interning with an engineer at a local company over the summer and during my senior year.
-~50 hours of volunteer work at homeless shelters, community activities, etc.
-~50 hours of paid work for my mother’s business

Future essays: I believe I am a good writer, so I think my essay will be good. By the time I have written it, I will have completed English Comp 1 and will be in the middle of English Comp 2, so I should be able to write a great paper.

Recommendations: They should be good. I think I’ll end up getting one from my chemistry/ physics teacher (PhD) and from my Calculus teacher. Both like me alot and want to see me succeed.

UC you will get in with some good money probably. If you’re from Ohio you’ll get into OSU. If you can get above a 30, you’ll have an ok shot for UMich, OOS is really hard though.

Bump, thoughts other people please?

Are you in-state or out-of-state for the schools in question?

Also, if you have to apply directly to the respective engineering colleges within these universities, you might look at this link to determine acceptance rates: http://profiles.asee.org/. Go to the school and click on the column on the left for “Undergraduates – New Applicants” for the admissions data.

I live in Ohio, so I’m instate for all except UMich

I think your chances for UC and tOSU are good; for U of M, not so good (your ACT score is not competitive for their OOS demographics).

OSU is my #1 priority currently. Seeing that their 25-75th percentile ACT score is 29-32, should I be worried if I don’t raise my ACT score from a 28?

Certainly, if you can get your ACT up a bit, you will be in a better position. Have you taken (or do you plan to take) the SAT? Students usually do better on one test or the other, and perhaps the SAT is “your” test. You might want to think about a test preparation course before you take the SAT (or re-take the ACT), that can give you an advantage.

Few people around here have taken the SAT, and I am already very familiar with the ACT, so I think I’ll just take the ACT again.

My 28 was from the first time I’ve taken it, and the second time I got a 27 (irritating, most people increase their second time). I plan on taking it twice more.

Yeah Umich is a reach. You’ll need a 30+ to really be in the running. I took the ACT 4 times so it’s normal to take it a lot

I would say UMich is a reach school but you are golden for OSU and UC! Good luck

You will def get into OSU and UC for sure. Umich would be alright
