Hi Guys,
I applied ED to University of Miami this year. I have a 3.1 U/W GPA and as of now 1250 SAT. Although these scores are pretty low I go to one of the best public schools in the US, has been in top 1% of HS the past 25 years. They accepted 13 people from my school last year and we have only 150ish kids per class. I am graduating with 5 APs and 5 honors, Captain of 2 varsity sports which i played al 4 years and some clubs. I know my chances are pretty slim but I also had someone I know at admissions “tag” my application, which indicates I know someone at admissions who is a family friend. Although this can not help me if I’m very unqualified, I think my essay was really strong and my letters of rec will be also. I’m also Hispanic. Let me know what u guys think
Ok first of all really nice to see another person other than myself whose on this website applying ED to Miami whose GPA isn’t absolutely perfect and didn’t make a 1600 on the SAT because the statistics Miami releases reflect that the average admitted applicants GPA is a 3.7 and a 1320 SAT and since we are applying ED the stats for the application pool should be a little lower than that so I don’t know maybe everyone else is just shy or something. I don’t think your chances are at all terrible if you took these AP and Honors classes it would stand to reason that your GPA might be a little lower and is it higher when you weigh it ? the SAT score also isn’t great I’m not at all saying your application will get deferred but if it does maybe consider taking it again just to see if you can bump it up a little. It seems like you have EC’s that you’re passionate about which is always a plus and a special family friend looking at ur app from the inside can’t hurt . Also ED also helps give your application a boost. Overall I don’t think you’re going to get rejected but It is a possibility your application might get deferred but thats ok you can still be accepted and theres lots of information out there on things to help you get admitted if you are deferred. But again theres still a good chance you will be accepted just somewhat of a reach. look at my chance me thread and tell me what you think good luck and go canes !
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for replying. My schools GPA weighing system is pretty weird. Everyone on this website says there U/W GPA and then their W GPA and its much higher, whereas my W GPA is only one point higher ex: 3.2 W, and I have 5 AP and 5 honors. I definintely agree with the deferral, but I did just take one more SAT last week and hopefully my scores will improve and maybe my semi connection could help? I am nervous because my ECs aren’t all that exciting, 2 varsity sports for 4 years and captain of each, but only in yearbook club, a club sports team and had a counseling job this summer. 3 other people from my class ED here out of 150, which also scares me. And do you know if being Hispanic would actually help? I identify as white but have a grandfather from Spain. I have expressed a lot of interest in the school and on my additional info of the common app wrote a small paragraph about how much I love UM and how i fell in love with it. Really hoping for the best here
I haven’t really looked into the advantages for admission of being hispanic so I don’t know about that one but yeah I’m hoping for the best too, Im dying out here waiting for my application decision
@sarah713 did you get in? I have similar stats and applied EDII and am dying
Yes! @miamiplz2022
