Hi all,
I am committed to play soccer at The University of Texas at Dallas. It is a Division 3 school, so I have to apply as a regular student & and get in as if I was a normal applicant. Being committed there doesn’t help me directly (doesn’t guarantee I’ll get in) as it would if I was committed to a D1 or D2 school. So, my question is, based on my stats, what are my chances I’ll get in? I’m concerned about my very average ACT score, which is a 24 composite. I am homeschooled, so my GPA doesn’t hold much weight. Although I have over 50 hours of college credit. What can I do to increase my chances of getting in?
Your 50 hours of college credit will actually help a lot as long as you have a good GPA from the community college. If
They have no problems with admitting homeschooled students. All three of mine got in and two of them got full tuition scholarships based on their SAT scores and community college credits (but their community college GPAs were pretty good, 4.0 for one and 3.5 for the other). With an ACT score of 24, you are definitely NOT in the running for an academic scholarship, but I don’t know if you would be eligible for a scholarship based on the major you are interested in or based on soccer.
I will have a 3.5 GPA when applying, one of my prof made an error w/ my final grade which is why I thought I was going to have a 3.39. So, with a 3.5 and 24 ACT do you think I’ll get in? I’m not concerned about academic scholarships- just getting in! Congrats to your kids. Are they homeschooled too? How did you go about making their transcript?
My kids were all hsed all the way through. My oldest had 45 dual credit hours and my middle daughter had 35 dual credit hours. My youngest is in her senior year and also got in to UTD, but did not get a scholarship. Her scores weren’t nearly as high as her sisters’ scores.
Their automatic admission score is 1200 for the SAT, which is equivalent to about 26 or 27 on the ACT. Your score isn’t much below that, so I would think that it’s likely, especially with a good GPA and a lot of college credits.
That’s great! Do you mind me asking what your seniors ACT/SAT score is? I was homeschooled all the way through as well. Do you think UTD is wary of homeschoolers, or do you think they treat them the same as regular applicants? I know some schools, more than others, don’t like to admit homeschoolers, while other schools actually prefer them. Also, one last question, not sure if any of your kids played sports in college, but do you think that me being committed to the women’s soccer team will be a deciding factor in my admission? Or, will at it least help? Really appreciate your insight!!
None of my kids were in sports at all. My daughter that just got admitted had an ACT of 27.
UTD has no prejudice against homeschoolers. I don’t see any preference there either.
I would think that being committed to the soccer team would help in terms of admission.
