Chance me, weak freshman year, very strong sophomore/junior years

I have a problem. I want to get accepted into HYP, but here's the problem. I had a horrible freshman year. I had an 75-80 average throughout the year because of some health issues (absent 77 days because I was so sick), parent troubles, and some deaths of relatives.

However, I maintained a strong 98-100 average throughout Sophomore and Junior years.

Courses for Sophomore year:
Trigonometry/Algebra 2 Honors, bumped up from regular Algebra 2/Trig
English 10 honors, bumped up from regular English 10
Chemistry Honors
Spanish 3H, bumped up from regular Spanish 3
AP Euro

Courses for Junior year:
Most strenuous courses

I got 5's on all my AP exams.

Extra curriculars:
-Cross Country
-Tennis
-1500+ hours of volunteer work, e.g. Went to China to teach English, worked with the mayor of my town to clean up a pond, started a small jazz band with friends to raise money to supply clean water, volunteered at a local hospital, volunteered at a homeless shelter
-Intel Science competition, placed within the top 300
-Did miscellaneous science projects, including building a rail gun, tesla coils, and a cloud chamber
-Successful eBay wholesale business
-Successful Xbox 360 repair business

SAT: 2400
ACT: 36

Nationality: Asian

Would you kindly chance me for any Ivy, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, NYU, UCLA, UC Berkely, Tufts, and Northwestern?

Advice to improve my chances is greatly appreciated.

Ummm… I thought Intel was only open to seniors? I smell a ■■■■■.

No, it’s not. I participated in Intel ISEF as a 16 year-old junior.

People with 2400 in the SAT or 36 in the ACT do not usually ask for chances… useless. Could be a ■■■■■.

While yes, I realize those are good grades on both those tests, I am worried on how my freshman year would affect my chances and if my EC’s are good enough.

Some schools do not consider freshman year such as Princeton. There is something suspicious about this chance thread… I just can’t pinpoint what… yet…

Maybe I’m just being paranoid.

Bring
Up
My
Post

Please chance me.

What do you think your chances are?

Haha, so Asian. Your freshman grades won’t have a great impact on your application as a whole. As HKtoUS mentioned above, certain schools, princeton included, don’t even look at freshmen year grades.

Was AP Euro your only AP course?

@HKtoUS

I’d like to think my chances are good :P

@Spatula

No, I had more AP’s, I’m just too lazy to list them, and plus, when I posted this, it was around 4 am, I was tired.

For those schools that do look at freshman year I think it will be helpful to address the reason for the low GPA somewhere in application or recs. I would think your chances are pretty good, especially if recs and essays are very strong.

Seriously… you have a 2400… you’re bound to have a decent chance at the least…

Just make sure that you explain your absences Freshman year and how they affected your overall GPA. As far as I’m concerned, being able to bounce back from such a low point (one brought on by factors out of your control) shows that you are resilient. Personally, I would have been so discouraged… I commend you.

seriously at these kinds of universities, ppl cant rly chance you because it is almost like a lotto. but hey! u got as good of a chance as most others.
