University of Michigan (oos)- Match
Duke- Reach
Rice- Reach

chance me back @ http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1183418-chance-average-student-some-good-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

ivies are reaches but you have a shot. you’re matched at Udenver, ucla, umich, and UNC and idk about duke and rice’s admissions and stuff

You seem like a good applicant and I think with your SAT score up just a little more you will have a better shot. You look very well rounded but from your ECs it is impossible to tell what you’re passionate about. I think you need to focus on fewer things and narrow in on the ones that really scream “you”. Otherwise, you’ll risk looking like the thousands of other qualified applicants. Also, and this is just my own curiosity since I plan to take SAT IIs in October, but did you study for yours first? Those are great scores. Did you take the APs and then the SAT IIs or did you use review books like Barron’s/PR?Kaplan? Just wondering! Chance back :)

Thanks guys! I’ll be sure to chance u guys back tomorrow!
@drumwriter22- No, I didnt use any books. I took Bio after the AP test (got a 5) so that helped a ton. As for math II, I had just completed Pre-calc2 (precursor to BC calc for me) so I kinda just winged it (thus my lowish score). Good luck! And I think I chanced u already lol. Also, what ECs do you think I should leave off from my apps? Some of them are kind of random haha. As for what screams “me”, it is really sports, writing, and “medical stuff”. What do u recommend I keep on my apps and what do u think I should do in order to make my ECs more focused? Thanks a ton!!

I think people are being a little too optimistic here. your only matches are U.Denver, UCLA, and UNC. Others are all reaches. maybe michigan is a high match. my point is you have way too many reaches. your stats are not terrible but not the best. your EC’s are kinda pushing it. not trying to be discouraging, but look more into schools like penn state or colorado at boulder something like that, or else you might end up getting in nowhere except u.denver, which is not the best result for you.

I would say ED to Penn would help you a lot. You are already very qualified, but that would help push you over the edge in competitiveness. If you don’t apply Ed, you still have a good shot at a lot of the schools, but because they are all so competitive, expect a few denials

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1183374-chance-ugh-frosh-year-duke-nd.html</a></p>

Dartmouth- Reach
Cornell- Reach
U penn- high Reach
Stanford- high reach
university of denver- Low Match
UNC (oos)- Match
UCLA (oos)-Match
University of Michigan (oos)- Match
Duke- mid Reach
Rice- mid Reach

You have good grades, and I would definitely recommend that you get your SATs higher. The ECs lack good focus, but I think a few good essays would get you through at least to one of your reach schools. Just try to focus on what you’re really passionate about senior year. Good luck!

Please chance me back!

btw. pulling a 2300 after 3 tries isnt going to leave a good impression on the adcoms. be careful of being perceived as a nerd who tries too hard

Thanks everyone.
and @andrewsun1994- Trying my best at a top notch SAT score is a bad thing? I didnt know that being tenacious would be looked down upon!.. and I wasnt planning on applying to all of them. I know a lot of them are reaches, I just wanted some opinions on my reaches. Thanks for the condescending comments :)

Great stats, good ecs…
I think you will have good chances… but some are reaches too.
but good luck!

Not to be rude but wouldn’t “all A’s award” be redundant to put on the common app considering colleges will see your entire transcript?

@Typhon- haha that is true… at my old school (I was there for freshman year), they used to give out awards for those that got all A’s (since it was a REALLY tough school). I probably wont put that on now that I think of it lol. Thanks.
@urban night- I appreciate the help. I’ll chance you tomorrow!

Dartmouth - Low Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
U penn - Low Reach
Stanford - Mid Reach
university of denver - Safety
UNC (oos) - Match
UCLA (oos) - Match
University of Michigan (oos) - High Match
Duke - Mid Reach
Rice - High Match

The lower tier ivies and duke are probably low-mid reaches (duke is low reach) Stanford is a mid- high reach, the others are matches except u of Denver is a low match.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1179687-chances-columbia-brown-princeton-tufts-uva-williams.html</a></p>

Your EC’s are kind of out of focus…a lot of those schools are reaches. I looked at your website, also - it seems a tad bit empty. I feel like if you added more, it’d be a really impressive website.

But you definitely can still make it! just write stellar essays and you’ll definitely get into at least one of your reaches!

thanks guys!
@orchdork1- Yeah, I am still working on it and I am trying to promote the website with flyers and things of that sort. Do you have any suggestions about the site?

Well on the site there are only 6 pages… and one of them is your “about me” page. If i’m being completely honest here, it seems like you only made that website to try and show that you’re passionate about science and the heart, not actually trying to educate people about heart disease. My best advice would be to add something that makes your site unique; something that wouldn’t be found in a wikipedia article or on WebMD.

hmmm, ok. I am going to increase the # of pages, I just don’t want to bore anybody lol. I guess I need to start brainstorming some unique things :). By the way, I just changed the format of the website and added on a couple of trivial stuff. Again, thanks for the advice!
