chance me...you know you want to

I was wandering what you think my chances are for freshman admission to NYU?

I graduated at sixteen (I'm seventeen now) from a DOD school in Pisa, Italy and I'm currently taking audit classes at a community college. I didn't attend university directly after graduation because I wanted to help my single-parent mother acclimatize in the U.S. and I thought I was rather young at sixteen. I'm aslo an English Immigrant, but I'm considered a domestic applicant(permanent resident).

I'm applying to CAS, as a history major

GPA 3.6 W / UW 3.46

freshman 3.2
sophmore 3.9
junior/senior 3.8ish

SAT I
690 Verbal
660 Math
610 Writing

SAT II
I will not receive the scores until December, though I think I did reasonably well.

Great recommendations, even one from my principal.

...anyone?

No one on this board is an expert and you're a special case--gap year + different circumstances...sorry but I can't tell you much. Your GPA is kind of low, get better grades at community college? Unless ur auditing...nevermind

Yes, I am aware that my GPA is rather low. I happened to graduate at the top of my class though if that holds any merit. My school offered few oppurtunities, but I took advantage of what I had. I'm not asking for an expert opinion of my chances, I would just like an alumni or someone with knowledge pertinent to NYU admission to say I have a shot or say I have no shot. According to princetonreview.com my GPA is equal to NYU's average and my SAT scores are higher, but I have seen stellar and even superlative students on CC, who are worried about admission. Subsequently, I am beginning to doubt myself. I'm just wandering if I have a chance or not. As explained I took audit classes (at sixteen).

tra-lah-lah-lah-lah

.......gsp?

actually ur gpa isnt the average
cause the average unweighted is 3.6 not weighted (ur uw is 3.46)

u should try raising ur sat's cause ur in the lower portion of the applicant pool with a 3.46 uw

you are probably a good candidate for gsp though

How do you know that the GPA is unweighted? NYU's site declares that it doesn't re-calculate the GPA, but instead looks at the grades holistically. I don't have an unweighted GPA (school doesn't report it).

tra-lah-lah-lah-lah

to be blatantly honest i dont think you'll get in, i mean, i think the D/F in french would be enough to have them reject you, even if you had all A's in other subjects.

Actually, more leniency is given to freshman grades and considering my circumstances (I moved to the U.S. then Italy all within a short period) I'm sure they won't reject me for one blemish on my record. Thanks, anyway.

Why are you asking for chances if you 'know it all?' (notice the sarcasm of know it all).

qwilde dont ask for our opinions if you're not going to listen. and an F is not a little blemish, it's kind of enormous :D

I was asking for discerning opinions and not blatant attacks on my academic record. As mentioned before, one bad grade in my FRESHMAN year will not undo all of my hardwork. There is a justification for my grade as well.

[edited for courtesy - Mod Amistad]

i wasnt attacking your record, but my opinion is that NYU wont accept you. if you want me to beat around the bush and BS and say you have a solid chance then please specify that next time. And I wasnt just basing this on your F in 9th grade either, but also on your gpa, sat's and courseload.

why would you even ask for their opinion if you're only going to disregard it? it's just that, an opinion. get over it, qwilde.
