I had beast essays on all of the above. My "Additional Comments" essay was on how I had a hard time balancing my schoolwork with my city agenda, and how I learned to cope up and got my GPA up by .67 by the end of junior year.

Okay, now that that’s out of my system… I don’t know if you already know this, but UCSD is/was on a points based system. It takes into consideration GPA, SAT I and II (so you need to post both), community service, leadership, awards, personal achievements, low income, first generation college student, and person challenges. From what I can tell, you would get a boat load of points from leadership, awards, achievements, and probably community service. Honestly, that alone is probably enough to push you over the point limit, whatever is it this year.

UCSD is, however, slowly moving towards holistic review (I’m pretty sure they’re evaluating students on both the holistic and points review.) If, for some odd reason, you are not admitted based on the points system, they would be crazy not to admit you based on the holistic review.

Just keep in mind that applications are up 12% this year, and enrollment goals are expected to be lowered due to budget cuts. That being said, I still think you have an excellent chance.

edit: did you mean critical gender studies? I don’t think UCSD has a women’s studies major…

Thank you so much. I’m terrified. My stats are so low (thanks to 1st semester junior year -_-) im living on a prayer to get in. and yeah, for UCSD, I applied under Critical gender studies.
good luck to all of you!
