Chance me?

Hi i just wanted to know if i have a realistic shot at getting accepted if i were to apply in the spring. I would be applying out-of-state, i have an associates degree in computer science from a NJ community college. My GPA is close to a 3.0 give or take. I would be transferring with 60 something credits

u just being out-of-state and having a 3.0 gpa you are basically guaranteed admisssion lol. Why dont you try Riverside? Merced should be ur last resort especially w/ computer science

The UC Transfer forum will be a much better place to ask about transfer questions.

You’ll almost certainly get in since your AS is already completed and being out of state likely wont hurt your chances as much at Merced as the other UC’s.

As far as the quality of the education is concerned, the UC’s are more or less identical in their classes. The diffrences between the schools comes from their geographical locations and the research funding that they receive. For most students, Merced ranks last in terms of geography since it’s location is a small town several hours away from any attractions. As for the research funding, it is still limited due to the school being open only 6 years.

A significant advantage that Merced has over some other UCs, the factor which made me chose to go there, is their Cognitive Science department, until recently, UCSD was the only other school to offer the major and as a result, UCM has a much larger selection of AI classes than most schools. Silicon Valley is also only 2 hours away so it is not inconceivable for you to get paid internships over there while studying.
