I have taken every honors class/adv honors class possible throughout my high school career if that means anything. I'm also a hispanic who will be the first in family to go to college.

Please chance me for the following colleges:
-University of Southern California
-Pomona College
-Boston College
-Lehigh University
-Wesleyan University
-Rice University
-Vassar College

Not that you don’t have nice credentials, but given how competitive things are, I would say that there is a risk you might not get into any of them. They are all tough to get into. For example, my friend’s son, an Indian (asian), got a 740 on his math sat and went to a top private high school, but got rejected at Boston College and USC. But I don’t know how a college would treat the fact that you are hispanic, and a first in your family. I suggest you add some midwestern schools to the list to diversity your risk, such as Michigan and Wash U. The indian kid I mentioned got into those schools.

floridadad55: Yeah I know that my chances at these colleges are up in the air. I just wanted to weed out some of the high reach colleges from my college list and Wash U was one of them but I’ll definitely add it to my college list, thanks!

Anybody else?

I’d say these colleges are fairly “reachy” for you. Particularly your rank - most of these school like to have top 10 percent. It’s not like you have very high ACT to help compensate. I think Pomona and Rice are very high reaches. Vassar and Lehigh seem more realistic…

Highbury: Even USC? I thought it was one of the most realistic of the list…

4205145 - I just don’t know that much about USC…I did just notice that you are first generation hispanic, that should help. Good Luck!

If you are talking about Wash U in St. Louis, it is extremely competitive. The average ACT score is a 32-34. It is just as hard if not harder to get into than Rice or Vanderbilt. With schools such as these and the Ivies it is really a toss up of whether or not you get in, even if you are an excellent student, due to their extremely low acceptance rates.

The fact that you are an ethnic minority AND a first generation college student is going to help you A LOT. I am not very familiar with the other colleges but I think you have a fair chance at USC.
