I have about 200 community service hours, was an editor for the yearbook, on the lacrosse team, had multiple jobs, was the manager of the school basketball team, performed with my band at a popular venue where I live, and am taking a rigorous course load this year...I am not of a diverse ethnicity that would help me get in.

You’re stats are really good. Make sure to write a good essay. And look, let me just mention a couple things…1) College Confidential is NOT a source to resort to for much good info. or anything, 2) Many people think college admissions is all about academics and that Summer is easier to get into. Now For some schools, I’m sure that could be true, but for UF? No. Admissions are holistic and students are admitted as one enrolling class. It’s not, first Fall students admitted, then Summer, or anything like that. It’s every applicant is considered, and UF selects who they feel are the best OVERALL candidates. THEN once everyone is admitted, the students are distributed to terms. Fall students get Fall, Summer get Summer, and for IA, UF looks at whoever they admitted that had the IA interest and hand select who they put into that program. The empty traditional spots left behind are filled up by the extra admits (cuz now UF is admitting more students). If I’m not mistaken, I’m not too sure on the legitamacy of this, but I THINK there’s a wave system of sorts…like x number of applicants reviewed at a time, and only y number of that group gets admitted. If this is true, which I think it is, that means yes, UF’s admissions are partial lottery of sorts. Because one person who didn’t get in during one wave, could’ve easily got in via the next five waves. But that person will never know that. And at the same time, someone who people here on CC would say they’d never get in, would end up getting in because maybe they had something super unique, maybe they were the best overall, or maybe the majority of other applicants they were compared to were weaker. You can’t simplify the admissions at UF and how it works. It’s so complicated and intricate. Add on the fact that the competition is so fierce that pretty much the majority of applicants would be getting into UF had there been enough space, and you really can’t simplify admissions. They do the best they can to pick the best overall candidates and what you can do is try to make yourself stand out the most and make yourself as unique as possible. Don’t be cliche or so similar to others. And pick the term you want! Don’t pick Summer or something because there’s a myth that it’s easier to get in like that! Your term, whether it be Fall, Summer, or IA interest, is not even considered during the admissions process. Those only matter once you are admitted in which UF figures out where they want to admit you. I don’t understand why people choose not to face this fact and still pick a term they don’t want then request a change because they weren’t happy…term change requests are meant for changing a term if a dire situation occurs or something, not to just change because you don’t like what you picked.

If you got any questions, really do call UF; College Confidential or the internet (unless it’s an official UF website/statement) are not valid sources of info…they have too much speculation and false facts. And speak to the right people/departments. You can’t call an admissions officer and expect to know about financial or housing info. for example.

And yes I know I typed a lot, but I’m right now waiting for something to cook so I got a lot of idle time haha, I hope I helped. And to get to the point for your thread, if I were to chance you, I think you have a shot. Present yourself well, write the essay strong, and you should have a good chance

wow thank you so much, you were a lot of help.

I know that it really depends on person to person (some people with higher stats than me didn’t get it but some people with lower did); it’s different for each person depending on their situation, but I just wanted some sort of estimate.
