Im graduating from an elite international high school, but I am a US citizen so I am counted as an OOS student.
Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.1, bad freshman year but pretty good junior year grades
SAT:1900
4 AP’s: Micro Econ, Marco Econ, APES, Human Geography
Extra Curricular’s: Rugby for past 4 years, a ton of community service, student tour guide, one summer internship at an investment firm, a lot of work experience
Really goods letters of recommendation
Really good essays
I am applying to McCombs as my first choice, and Moody as my second. I am not confident I will get in just because my SAT and GPA are so low, but I do go to an Ivy League prep school in London that doesn’t inflate grades like every public school in America. Apparently graduating internationally but being an American citizen is a big help just because its unique.
Please be brutally honest, Im not expecting to get in but I just want to know my chances.
Considering that the school’s lower end of the SAT range is in the high 500’s for each subject, you might have a chance. Do you have any other hooks? (Under-represented minority, etc.)
Thanks for the reply, I am white so the best thing I have going for me is the whole international gig…I did meet and have exchanged emails with the counsellor for international admissions if that helps.
Has the international application deadline passed yet? If not, take the last few days to perfect your essays, especially the supplements - these will be much more important if you have a borderline GPA or SAT scores. It helps a lot to “package yourself” as someone with a particular interest or passion. For example, if you think you want to be a doctor, go into a lot of detail about the opportunities in high school (classes, summer research, etc.) that made you want to go into medicine.
If the deadline has already passed, I still think you’re in the running! Just keep your fingers crossed and try to relax. Get more comfortable with your backup schools just in case things don’t work out, and try not to think about it too much.
