Hi,
This year has been rough and I want to see if my hopes are too high.
First and foremost, I have a chronic illness that has caused me to miss a lot of school, miss out on SAT test dates, and weaken my courseload.
Right now, I’m in physics and government (dropped both from AP to regular), AP English, I had to drop calc II, but I got an A in linear algebra and currently have an incomplete in an engineering class taught at VT (but my grade will be faxed over to W&L as soon a semester I can get it finished, but being sick is really hard) and I’m taking chemistry and C++ as part of the engineering program I’m in (dual enrolled).
My test scores are underwhelming. I have a 1410/1600 SAT (720 math) and a 30 composite ACT (28 math, 34 English). I didn’t get to take subject tests.
I have a 4.2 GPA right now (3.9 unweighted), and I’m #1 in my class.
I did everything W&L specific well. One of my best friends is a Johnson and I had him read all of my essays so I assume they’re good. I had an interview and I think it went well, and I visited campus several times.
I found/co-found 3 organizations and preside over all of them as president or co-president. I also preside as vice-president over a state championship winning team and I have tons of volunteer hours, a combination of religious/science/social activism stuff.
I also don’t know if this can help or hurt me, but W&L took someone from my school ED I, and I know for a fact that their application is less impressive than mine. I don’t mean to sound obnoxious, but the person who got in spent a lot of time explaining how they should get in and their SATs/GPA/ECs are all not as intense as mine, objectively.
Please let me know what you think, I know I’m on the lower end of the applicant pool but I need to know if getting sick was the nail in my coffin.
Thank you!
