RD Chances

Hi guys! I'm really interested in W&L and was wondering if you guys could give me an estimate of my chances of being admitted.

Grades: 3.7 UW GPA through 6 semesters, probably a 3.75 after 7th semester.

Rank: top 10% (barely)

ACT: 33 Composite, 35E, 31M, 31R, 33S, 11W, 34E/W

Course rigor: regular school only offers one AP, which I am taking. I also attend a school for accelerated math and science students that provides advanced courses in math and science. I am taking 2 out of the 3 APs offered there. I also will have taken 4 classes at the local community college.
Senior year schedule/grades (1st semester):
AP English L&C - A
POSC 200 - American Syst of Govt - A
HIST 202 - Modern Global History - A
AP Calculus BC - A-
Environmental Biology - A
Anatomy & Physiology - A

Extracurriculars:
I have attended two different different schools and was homeschooled out of the country for another year, so I haven't been too involved in school related ECs. But I do have lots of volunteer hours and other stuff.
Canvased for political campaigns in 2008.
Am involved in our church youth group. Attended a community service camp over the summer in Dayton, OH that lasted a week, in which we did a variety of volunteer projects for underprivileged community members.
Also volunteer twice a month at our church soup kitchen.
While I was out of the country (in Bolivia), I gave computer lessons over the summer to kids in our rural community who otherwise would not have had access to computers.
Played on the varsity soccer team as a freshman.
Had a full time (40+ hrs/wk) job over the summer.

Intended major(s): Political Science and Economics

Essays:
I feel they were very good. Common App essay was about how I have benefitted from living a multicultural and multinational life.

Interview: haven't had it yet, but have e-mailed the person responsible for my area and we are scheduling one.

Hook: URM (Hispanic), dual citizen Bolivia&USA (not sure if that means anything).

Honest opinions on my chances would be appreciated. Thanks!

You would most likely be in with your stats, but your hispanic status sealed the deal. You’re in.

You think so? I would like to believe that, but I’m not sure. W&L seems pretty competitive. Do you know how good W&L is with need based aid?
Also, what is the campus culture/atmosphere like? I hate being stereotypical, but being in Virginia I would expect it to be at least slightly more conservative than other schools. I’m real open minded so I wouldn’t care how conservative people are politically, but how conservative are people socially, in particular with how religious they are and how LGBT friendly they are?

Religiously people are indifferent to what you believe, you can feel free to practice as much or as little of whatever religion you want.

LGBT friendly? The sad truth is simple: No.

UM32192- You seriously need to do a lot more research on W&L. I adore W&L and think it is the best place on earth, but we are not for everyone. We have a unique social culture that perfectly suits us, but not everyone. We are, for the most part, conservative politically and socially, social people, brand-conscious, and Greek. There are some people who don’t fit the norm, but if you come to W&L determined to be an iconoclast and change the school, you won’t be very happy. People who don’t understand and accept the social culture tend not to fit in well, and tend to have less-than-stellar experiences, which is sad because W&L has made me and so many other people extremely happy. Do your research and visit the school if you can. There are certainly many other schools to look at if you are drawn to the small, academic culture of W&L but are looking for a liberal, non-religious, gay-friendly place.

Looks like that ship has already sailed.

Chance me please!

Thanks for your input guys!
@seniorgeneral: Im a very laid back person and quite frankly have no interest in starting a cultural revolution at W&L. I merely wanted to know if W&L is a diverse place or at least tolerates and appreciates students who are different. I realize W&L is a great school and has many of the qualities I am looking for in a school. I am interviewing this weekend, and if I am admitted and offered good financial aid, I will visit campus and strongly consider the school.
