I plan on applying to SMU for the class of 2022 in the fall. Im a junior with a GPA of 3.0, and an ACT score of 35. I have a fair amount of extracurriculars and sports along with volunteer work. I took 2 AP’s this year, and am taking 4 more next year. What would be chances be for EA, and ED as well? Thank you for your time.
ED will be more likely than EA. Also try to bump up your gpa and take more AP’s next year if possible - 4 more is a good number. They love extracurriculars, but test scores and GPA will be the best way to determine how good of a student you are
For ED, would you say it’s likely that I get in? It is my #1 school by far at this moment and there’s nothing I would want more than to get in!
And I also will have an upward trend with a presumable junior year gpa of 3.3
Hi @prs3300 - I would also suggest working on raising your GPA. It isn’t in line with your great ACT score. Do you have an explanation (not asking you to explain here)? If so, maybe you could write about it in one of your essays. It is good that your junior year GPA is improving. That could go to your overall “story”.
My son received a 34 on his ACT and a 4.0 GPA. He was named a President’s Scholar and will be attending SMU in the fall. So, if you work on your GPA and have leadership in ECs, then I think you are in line for acceptance and some decent merit aid from SMU too. Keep working, junior year is a hard one. Finish strong! And don’t let senioritis set in next year!
