Chance me

Hi, I’m a 17 year old Puerto Rican overwhelmed by all other “chance me”'s I have read and would like to see if anyone out there could give me some advice on what to do and what not to do, what to improve, or any recommendation for any specifics schools, etc.
-I have a 4.5 weighted GPA, do not know my UW one.
-I have been in the National Honor Society since the eight grade.
-My GPA has been ascending since the 9th grade.
-My first SAT score was 1290 (660 Math, 630 Eng). Will take it again, my goal right now is between 1380-1420. (Also, is that plausible?)
-My essay got scored 666, I’m taking it again though.
-I took AP Micro and USH my junior year. I hace taken all honor classes since the eight grade apart from that.
-My senior year course load would be considered heavy in my high school: AP Calc AB, AP Spanish, AP US Gov, AP English, Religion, PR History and Physics.
-I am interested in a political science major.
-Attended a Intensive Law and Trial program at Stanford the summer between 9th and 10th grade.
-Have been part of the Model UN club since 8th grad; have been treasurer and VP. Received multiple recognition and plan on attending a meet in UChi next February.
-I have been part of community service clubs and have 70+ hours.
-Was part of a public health internship.
-Law Club president senior year (member since 10th grade) and part of the school newspaper junior and senior year.
-National Hispanic Scholar
-I am shadowing a lawyer this summer and might work in the municipal legislature as well.

I have family in VA so I’m specifically interested in UVA, is that considerable?, etc. I have no specific preference on the size of the school. I have been recommended some all-girl schools which I have looked into, but I’d prefer not to attend. I’m generally interested in the eastern side of the country and have been given a rough draft of possible applications by my college counselor which I will copy below. (I have also added some either me or my parents are invested in). If anyone could help, it’d be amazing! Thank you.

I am also part of the track team and took Math 2 and US History Subject Tests.

Most of those colleges your counselor gave you are in the upper-echelon of US colleges, schools where you need tests scores such as a 1500+ to get in, such as Georgetown, Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Rice, Tufts, etc. Not to say you won’t but to get into places like that, you need to be an absolute powerhouse of EC’s and academics. Your EC’s look fine, but the glaring weakness I see is the SAT score. Try to get that up to somewhere in the ballpark of 1450-1500 and your chances will skyrocket.

Thankyou! Do you have any recommendations of places I should look into?

I agree with @oakland818 . Get into the 1400s if you can!

You’ve got a great, solid application overall.

Your GPA (upward trend) and ECs look pretty stellar, so all I would suggest is that you retake the SAT and get at least 1500 (not just 1400) to be competitive for schools like Yale, Georgetown, JHU, Rice, and WashU. Additionally you should try taking some subject tests in Literature and History to show colleges your specific skill and talent in those areas. If you take those, aim for at least 750 and above. You look like a very competitive applicant based on your stats. Good luck! I would really appreciate it if you could chance me back here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1995754-chance-me-low-gpa-rank-cornell-rice-wash-u-ucla-etc-p1.html

Good luck with your SAT

Thanks @tripledouble2000 and @InternationalDad

I’m also bilingual for obvious reasons lol. If anyone knows anything about UVA, Williams, BC or Georgetown it’d be great.

Wow! Your extracurriculars are phenomenal! I would really try to raise your SAT! Good luck! =D>
