Hi! If anyone can chance me, it would be greatly appreciated
gpa: 3.74 uw, 4.2 w
ACT: 35
SAT: 1600
SAT II: Chem 800, Math II: 800
I’m also in the IB diploma program, with Math, Bio, CS and English as my HLs, and psych and French as my SLs
By the time of graduation, I will have completed the following APs: CS A, US History, Chem, Gov, Phys C
I am interested in Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Computer Science at U of T.
Your gpa/ACT/SAT are great. You have a predicted score for the IB? Your engineering admission will depend on how well you do on the personal profile and your IB score.
You should be OK for computer science. You do know that admission into the computer science stream doesn’t guarantee admission into the CS major, right?
Thanks for your reply! My predicted for IB is a 38/42 but I think I can get higher than that.
I read that an 80 % or higher in the first year is needed in order to pass on to second year - are many students unable to continue studying CS because of this?
Also, if I’m rejected for engineering as my first choice, will they consider me for computer science as a second choice?
Engineering and CS are in different faculties. They require different applications and are assessed by different admission committees. You can apply to both. If you apply to CS, you can’t apply to another program in arts and science and if you are rejected from CS, you are rejected from arts and science. I believe engineering allows you to rank your preferences of engineering concentrations. Engineering and CS are not related at U of T. If you’re rejected from engineering, you will not be considered for CS or any other arts and science program and vice versa.
The average for the first year CS courses is around the mid-70’s range, so yes a lot of people cannot declare the CS major or specialist. If you look at the table here - http://web.cs.toronto.edu/program/ugrad/admission.htm you can see that the required average to declare the major or specialist has been increasing each year.
