1450 SAT, 750 Math 700 ERW, 750 Math II, 680 Physics, 32 ACT with a 34 on Math and a 33 on Science. 4.2 GPA but my school’s weird so whatever that counts for, I’m like 4/400. Two state medals and two trips to state in science Olympiad, state runner up and two time state qualifier in Vex Robotics. I also have 12 credit hours of college calculus, and 8 credit hours of college English. Chance me at U of M, Caltech, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, MSU Honors College. I know a lot of them are extreme reaches but I’m hoping that my dedication to taking hard classes and doing well in them will shine through. So, chance me.
Also since APs help ig, here ya go. Remember at my school we can only take 5 classes per semester and we don’t have like an independent study option. Also remember some of my slots are taken up by college classes but here goes:
Freshman Year: AP World (N/A)
Sophomore Year: AP Calc BC (4/3), AP Lang (3), APUSH (5)
Junior Year: AP Psych (N/A), AP Physics (4), AP Lit (N/A), AP Gov(3).
Senior Year: AP CSP, AP CSA, AP macro/micro.
The colleges don’t consider your AP scores for admission. They use the grades from those classes in your GPA calculation.
You need some safeties. Those are all reaches for everyone.
you have a good profile but applying to Ivy League schools would obviously be a reach. you should consider applying to something like U of M and Caltech where u have better chances
Oh okay. I kinda thought MSU would be my safety. Do you think even that’s a reach for me? @“aunt bea”.
I think MSU would be a safety but not sure about the competitiveness of their HC.
I’m going to be honest and say that I think your standardized test scores are on the low side for your reaches.
Would you be happy at MSU? If so, then I think you are OK. If not, look for more matches and safeties for your list.
@momofsenior1 yeah msu would be fine, my parents would be triggered beyond belief but I’ll only live with them for like 5 more months right? Lol ig short answer yeah msu is where I would go because I have a lot of friends there at HC.
Do you have four years of math, four years of science, four years of a foreign language, etc? Just making sure you checked that you met the requirements for your reaches. Looks like you are way ahead in math, but you still need to take four years for the highly competitive schools.
My school doesn’t have four years of science because the only AP science we offer is ap physics 1 so I’m not sure how that will be viewed. Also since German is like a second first language to me I tested out of German 1,2, and 3 and only ended up actually taking German 4. I had no interest in learning Spanish. Would that count?? @Groundwork2022 otherwise I have four years of history/econ and four years of English and math obviously.
Yikes! Check each colleges admission requirements web page. You won’t be penalized for not taking classes your school doesn’t offer. However, it doesn’t have to be AP (if your school doesn’t offer it) to count towards the college’s requirements.
@screennamenibba, Caltech is a top ten school. The OP would need close to perfect scores and multiple ECs to get in. Plus, Caltech only accepts 200-250 students, world-wide. How is it that you think he/she has a better chance of getting into Caltech?
I’m guessing they accidentally pasted Caltech along with U of M when suggesting it as a more probable acceptance.
I’m afraid many of the elite schools listed would reject you. Maybe take a look at Carnegie Mellon, but I suspect UM would be the most attractive and likely option.
