chance me

Hello I am a senior in hs who applied early action for OSU around October 20th. I have a 1270 SAT and a 4.2 GPA. I go to a highly competitive hs that is nationally ranked and #2 in the state of Texas. I am an out of state resident and have taken a total of 9 AP classes including 3 senior year the rest being honors. I have been in the top concert and marching band for 4 years leadership team for 2/4 and am principle flute of the band. I have also been in my nationally awarded yearbook staff for 3 years and have been coverage editor for the past 2. I am in NHS and am involved with multiple clubs. Chances and any idea of when I should hear back?

Applying to the school of business

Hi! I’ve also applied to OSU (instate) and we have pretty similar stats. The issue is that OSU is especially competitive for out of state students, but with your level of involvement in your high school I’d say your chances of getting accepted are fairly good. The first wave of decisions are released on Nov 22nd and then waves will follow every two weeks to every month after that.
Good luck!

Tuition is triple the cost of in-state. Are you able to afford the tuition costs? If you’re in the top 10% of your class you’re an auto-admit for Texas A&M, which puts you at the head of the line for selection into their business school. It’s not a guarantee, but your chances are a lot better for the business school than OSU.

I am able to fully pay for oos tuition costs. I do not want to live anywhere near texas, so an education from a&m would do me no good. The schools I am applying to are ranked high for business in areas near where I would like to end up getting a job. To my family and I, my happiness at the college I choose is most important, and for me that is not in Texas.

Fisher has a great program. They used to list stats for direct admission, but that doesn’t seem to be the case now. Fisher notification arrives a couple weeks after the university decision.

There is a way for current OSU students to apply to Fisher, but unlike other colleges there isn’t a set criteria that guarantees admission; it is always competitive. I do know someone who transferred out of Fisher into the College of Education and Human Ecology to pursue a Hospitality Management major. https://undergrad.osu.edu/majors-and-academics/majors/detail/82

If you become a buckeye (keeping my fingers crossed for you!), you might enjoy participating in the athletic (pep) band. https://tbdbitl.osu.edu/athletic-band

Good Luck!

@soptop It’s up to you, but think it through  Getting into OSU is only half the battle. Their business school is highly competitive, and you’d be applying to get in sometime late in your sophmore year. It would suck if you spent 2 years at a school and got rejected for your major, then had to transfer somewhere else. And credits don’t always transfer, especially from out of state. Financial aid has limits too.

That’s why I mentioned A&M. I know you don’t like Texas, but you have a potentially solid opportunity to be accepted into a business school in advance. You can move anywhere you want after you graduate.

I found Fisher’s auto admit* stats for AU 2020 (Domestic Freshman Drop-down https://fisher.osu.edu/undergraduate/admissions/future-students):

Composite ACT score of 30 or SAT total score of 1360 or higher is required.
-OR-
Composite ACT score of 26 or SAT total score of 1230 or higher, AND rank in the top 20% of high school class.

*the university admits major-blind, so these are not auto admit stats for the university’s main campus. Fisher hopefuls must first be admitted by the university.

If you aren’t in the top 20% you will still be reviewed for direct admit to Fisher, it just won’t be an automatic decision. Again, you can expect to hear from Fisher approximately two weeks after the university’s admission decision.

"Students who do not qualify for direct admission will be considered for Fisher’s Pre-Major Program. Pre-major students are members of the Fisher community and will work with an assigned business academic counselor to begin their required foundation courses.

After satisfactory completion of business coursework and required minimum GPA, eligible pre-major students will apply to the major program and desired specialization through a competitive application process." see link above

Get the sat up and you’re good. Applied OOS for business also am hopeful to hear soon.
