Hello! I have been accepted into 9 colleges but narrowed it down to these last two. Was supposed to tour OSU this week but it was cancelled due to COVID19. I have been given a scholarship to OSU and will be paying in state fees. I was also admitted to the Fischer Business School Honors Program. (I live in MD)
With the Uni of Texas Austin, I did not get into the honors program but the undegraduate business program is rated at no 5 nationally - BUT I have to pay $55K per year, housing included. After 12 months, I can set up residency in Texas and that would bring down my tuition from $35K to about $12K.
Which route would you choose? It is so hard for me to make a decision because I only got to visit UT Austin and I can’t really get a sense of what the university is like by just doing a virtual tour.
Congratulations, Texas is very hard to get into from out of state. It’s hard to ignore the price differential, but I’m a UT Austin business grad and I loved everything about Austin and the University. Don’t forget to factor in travel costs when you are comparing pricing. One thing to think about is what part of the country you would like to end up in. The climates are also very different. I actually saw an article that compared Columbus to Austin and found they are very similar except Columbus is ‘Austin without the weird’. Good luck, you really can’t go wrong!
Congrats…I was admitted to both, and am going to OSU - Columbus was really the deciding factor, both awesome programs, hard to make bad choice in my view.
Your first Business decision will be at play here. Save the $100K plus difference and go the also highly rated Fisher School of Business. Keep in mind that, there is a chance that your first semester of college might also be online is this situation does not go away. Columbus is a great city and OSU Football is an incredible perk.
@gmsale. I have been to the UT Austin campus but am not familiar with the business school. I can speak more on Fisher, as my oldest is an alum and i I have hired a bunch of Fisher grads. I like to hire them because they have a solid balance of theory and practical skills. Our HS sends about 40 kids to OSU a year and they tend to love it. Culturally, it is a place which attracts serious and more fun-loving students alike. Cannot beat the school spirit for sports. I think it has pretty much every conceivable major. And intramural sports team. It is gigantic, for sure. There is a Greek presence, but not dominant. Columbus is a fabulous city. I love Austin, too, though. Hope that helped.
