How bad is it, will I be restricted to low ranking colleges like Mary Washington and Mason? Is it too late to turn around?
Stay balanced and just get the best grades you can. That’s a GPA to be proud of. Harvard? Who cares? There aren’t enough ivy league graduates in the United States for employers to even care who they are. College is more about your major and employable job skills than the brand name or rankings.
You are only a freshman, you have more than enough time to get your application boosted if that is something that you want later on in your high school experience. Also, for a freshman your grades and courses are by no means bad. It is much to ask of a freshman to take all APs and college courses and I think that it is obvious to colleges when things are done with application in mind only. That being said, low ranking does not mean bad. You want to choose a school where you will get a good education and be happy in. I absolutely understand the draw of going to a t-20, but keep in mind that most of those students either enjoy the things that get you into college or broke their backs to get in. Don’t go into this process with rank in mind only, you will end up where you are meant to be.
