Chance me!!!

I was wondering what my chances of getting into UCSB are.

CA resident, Jewish, live with a single parent, do they even care, mother makes 25k a year, father had a brain aneurysm and is now critically disabled, does this make a difference (essay topic along with Abroad study).

class rank 115/350 without this semesters 4.0 grades
SAT 1800
ACT 28

I slacked off during my first two years of high school and got a cumulative GPA of 3.038, but now I am getting down to Business and on my last report card got a 4.0 with three weighted classes, AP Bio, Pre Cal and APUSH. Will they like to see that i decided to work hard for junior year? When this year is over i should have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and be ranked higher accordingly. I am apart of my schools AFS, Spanish and World Without Boarders clubs. I am active in my Church, and occasionally volunteer. I have wrestled and played baseball throughout my high school career.

I know my resume so far is sub par for getting into a well known UC like UCSB but...

i am currently taking night school to get the required civics and econ out of the way, over the summer i am going to take English four and graduate from my high school in three years. i am doing this because i am going to study abroad for my entire senior year in Spain, where i would be taking a full work load. i am going abroad with AFS and i was wondering if THIS was going to be enough to make my application stand out. I know that UCSB is the headquarters for the entire UC college exchange program, and was wondering if this might have anything to do with my acceptance.

i will have taken three years of spanish,4 CP english, Chem, Bio, AP bio, APUS, up to pre cal in math, and ceramics. plus the courses that i take in Spain.

its my dream to hang with the Guacho, do i have a good chance?

the average sat score is 1775
gpa is 3.81
and
act is 26

You still have a chance to get accepted since they don't calculate your freshman year GPA. They really look at your Sophomore and Junior year. Although you didn't do as well as you could have your Sophomore year the fact that you're trying hard your Junior year will make a great difference. They don't just like at your GPA and SAT scores they also take into consideration family struggles that you could express in your personal statement. They take everything into consideration so just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine. Good luck!!

Very realistic chance of getting in. It should be noted that the averages that they post on the website are averages that include people that go to LA and Berkeley who apply to SB as a safety and the more realistic GPA/SAT of people that actually do go to UCSB, so if you take off freshman year and it makes a difference, then it will get you into this school. Good luck, and I'm pretty sure your socioeconomic conditions can be mentioned in the PS, and that they will matter.
