Chance Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with a lot that has been said in this thread. By no means are any of these programs "safeties" or even "matches." They're all highly competitive programs for a select few individuals, so consider yourself very proud (and a little lucky) to get into one.

That being said, you being from Michigan and having those stats gives you a solid chance at MSU's program. I interviewed there and everyone seemed really nice, but I was told that they put a ton (read: underlined and bolded) of emphasis on your essays. Start writing them NOW, because they're usually due by the 1st of November or so and you have like 5 or so very lengthy essay questions to write. Good luck!

By the way, the stats were we given at the interview day for MSU's Medical Scholars Program:

About 350 applied, 50 were invited back for an interview, 10-12 were given an acceptance and 2-3 were given a waitlist.

Thanks ppenguin and miami, thats some real valuable info..............aprreciate it.

If you're talking specifically the BS/MD program here at Stony Brook, it's extraordinarily difficult to get in -- they only admit a handful of students (usually less than ten), and only about twenty or so get interviewed... from hundreds and hundreds who apply. So in terms of the combined program, you're right, there aren't any guarantees.

In terms of the university as a whole, though, I'd say you a record like that would give you a very good shot not only at admission, but likely qualification for some sort of scholarship and/or honors program consideration.

And just because you're not in the combined program doesn't mean you won't go on medical school, either here at Stony Brook or otherwise; that's just one avenue.

Good luck in your search.

Chris

Rising Jr. D is in this program.

From the Rice website:

"Last year, more than 1,600 Rice applicants expressed an interest in the Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars Program; 468 applicants were admitted and given the opportunity to compete for admission to the Medical Scholars Program. Fifty of those students were selected as finalists and asked to interview with Baylor College of Medicine. After the interviews, 18 students were selected as Rice/Baylor Scholars with the expectation that 14 would accept a place in the program."

Clearly, Rice/Baylor is a long-shot for anyone!

I want to know what/which BS/MD program i can get into with my stats, I dont really like D.O's but if i cant get into MD, DO is my backup;no offense.
