Chances for University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

G.P.A - 3.1
ACT-27
School doesn't offer AP but have taken tons of college classes through dual enrollment program.
Probably in top 40 to 50% of class
Live in Michigan

I am in a special program for all of the students in my county that want to become doctors. I have about 20+ credits at a local community college where we were required to take college classes. I got all A's and a couple B's for the courses except for my human anatomy class which was a C so I withdrew from it. I have taken at the college:

Human Anatomy, Medical Terminology, CPR & First Aid, Health Information, Psychology 201, Elementary Japanese, along with some others

I have generally taken all the hardest courses I could at my school such trig, 3 years of spanish and our highest level of science.

I had around a 3.5, until my junior year. I had some health problems that were involving my eyes and I was given a wrong prescription. Due to this I missed a lot of school and always had migraines but the doctors didn't find out until near the end of my junior year. I explained this in my app and so did my counselor but I dont think U of M will really care that much.

I went to state for Health Occupations Students of America Club. I have active participation in other programs as well. Did a little volunteer work. Have a lot of hospital experience as my program requires we spend hundreds of hours in the hospital with doctors. Come from a poor family and explained my experiences of living in the ghetto and other things in my application. I have always gone to a predominantly white school in a nearby town though.

So give me your insight on my chances of getting in.

No chance.

I thought as much

sorry, man. I had similar (but somewhat higher) stats in high school, and I really wanted to go to UW Madison. I ended up going to another Big 10 school for my freshman year and am hoping to transfer to Madison next year. I think that's the best route you can take.

I am kinda of embarassed that I prolly wont get in. My two best friends both got accepted, though one is the valedictorian and the other has a 3.6 gpa. I really want to go to Michigan State though because it has all the programs I want. Its just that I want to know I could get into a good school why I am so worried about getting into U of M.

Yeah sorry, your GPA looks too low for Michigan.

I had around a 3.5, until my junior year. I had some health problems that were involving my eyes and I was given a wrong prescription.
Do you think that U of M will care anything about my situation. My counselor said she wrote a killer rec and she explained a lot about my life and circumstances cuz she likes me a lot, or is it just hopeless.

that might change the tides if u can perhaps show how good you were before and how you have come out of it.

ps. great essay too u might have a shot ..

My 1st semester senior grades are all A's and one B. And for this semester 75% of my coursework was college classes. How much do you think this will help. Is it possible I might be deferred. And do deferred students usually get accepted.

I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you, especially if you applied this late. The eyes thing might help a bit. Good luck.

Do you think its possible to get deferred at first than accepted once they see my first semester senior grades.

maybe.... just hope u they do

Small Chance. Instate helps a lot, but still...40-50%...that's a shame.

Definately send in your 7th semester grades as soon as possible.

Well in a post at Michigan the OP got deferred with a 3.1 uw however had a 33 ACT. In order to be at least deferred you must show strength in one academic aspect and unfortunately you seem to be weak at both based on Michigan standards. If you really want to go to Michigan simply transfer in; research the percentages of transfers from local community colleges and transfers from maybe MIchigan State or other colleges in Mich.

Transferring in from Michigan State sounds like a pretty good idea. I just might do that.

bump........

yeah, honestly that would be your best bet. Just make sure you buckle down next year (wherever you go), get at the very least a 3.3 and you should be good to go.

Is it hard to transfer to schools.

If you go to MSU, and you get a 3.3, chances are you'll get into Michigan as a transfer.
