chance me

hey guys. please chance me, im really conflicted about georgetown in itself cause academically it seems perfect but i dont really know if its the right "fit." whatever, i guess that's my personal problem.
so here we go, i dont know the template but ill try my best

applied to foreign service school as a middle eastern studies major

small jewish school, long island; first student in recent history applying to georgetown
gpa: 3.9 unweighted, school doesn't weight
rank: school doesn't rank, but counselor "checkbox" on the common app was top 5%
sats (low-ish) CR: 670 M: 730 W: 800 (i know gtown doesn't look at writing, fml) (2200, 1400)
physics: 720 math iic: 750 US history: 700
aps: 9 total, 11: eng. language (5), art history (5), US history (5) 12: microecon, macroecon, gov and politics, literature, physics b, calculus bc
4 other judaic classes (hebrew adv h, jewish judicial system, american jewish history, and bible)

didn't read any recomendations, but got one from my art/judaic studies, english, and physics teacher. presumably very, very good. same with counselor.

essays: arabic course i took this summer, my relationship with my palestinian professor after a terrorist attack this summer
sfs essay: roadblocks to peace in the middle east: lack of leadership on the palestinian side of the spectrum and how israel doesn't have a constitution so theres nothing it can be help accountable towards.

ecs:
fluent in hebrew, comprehensive in arabic, proficient in spanish
took an arabic course at hebrew university last summer
volunteered for hillary clinton presidential campaign
president of spanish club
president of drama club
performing 2 performances now: in pippin in english, and, in fiddler on the roof (as tevye) completely in hebrew
captian of academic quiz bowl
cross country
4 years of guitar, 4 of piano
possibly getting an internship at the israeli consulate this summer
israel awareness club and public programming

positive: interview went amazingly, i dont know how many jewish applicants they get that want to study ME studies there but presumably not too too many, very personality oriented.
negative: lowish test scores, ecs dont show too much leadership (i think one of my recs focuses on leadership though, but i really cant speak to that 100%)

theres def more that im not thinking of cause its early in the morning but just let me know.

wait, and ACTS were 32 composite (only took them once) (30 reading, 34 writing, 34 math, 29 science and 11 essay)

mehh. respond please?

Your SAT scores are somewhat low, but not anything that definitively sinks your chances.
You have good extracurriculars, but you must remember that most of your competitors do too.
What really sets you apart is your emphasis on international studies (languages, possible internships, essay, etc.). Your uniqueness should help you. Although there are plenty of Arabs on campus, the Jewish population is not as strong.

All in all, I would say you have a better chance than the average applicant. That being said, even if your chances are better than the 17% or so that everyone else faces, realistically, how high can they really be? At any prestigious “top university,” believing you have better than a 50/50 chance is just irresponsible and can only hurt you. I went through the whole college application period thinking I would only get into my safeties. I forgot to go to my Georgetown interview so when I got the letter in the mail, I was expecting a rejection. Needless to say, I was thrilled to be accepted. Don’t expect to get into Georgetown: if you get rejected it won’t hurt as much, and if you get accepted it will be that much better because you didn’t expect it to happen.

Despite all that, your strong application probably puts you above 50/50. You do not have the test scores that other applicants have, but you have much more to offer than most of them.

Good luck…

hahha - hoya - thats funny about your interview. im glad everything worked out for you:)

thank you for chancing me! anyone else?
