Chance me? :)

Hey guys! I'm new to CC and I'd like to know if I have a shot at the following BS.
I'm looking at Andover (I'm in love with this school!), Exeter, Emma Willard, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Choate,Peddie, Kent and Tabor.
PS: Next year I'll be a junior attending a nearby private school. I'm going to repeat 11th grade to spend two years at a boarding school and maybe a PG year.

I'm not as brilliant academically as many of the people I've seen here on CC (I have many B's, one C...) but oh well.

Ok, stats:

Fluent in portuguese, spanish and french ( and self-studying Italian)

-I'm a really good artist. (My works have been featured in galleries in Portugal, and I've won many awards. I may submit some of my artwork to the Scholastic's Competition and hoooopefully win )

I am not really outstanding at any sports, but give me a tennis racket and I'll be happy :)
I'm also in the volleyball team at my school.

I love to write. I've sent a novel I've been working on for the past two years to a Portuguese publisher, and hopefully I'll get published (although I still haven't heard from them)
I write poems and short stories. My novel falls into the young adult category...fantasy/romance lovers out there will love it as much as my little group of fans do :)

As for community service...uhm. I think I have 40-50 hours done mostly at the local hospital, an animal shelter and some community events.

I'm in the french club, spanish honor society, beta club, art club, national honor society, etc

And thats pretty much it. I'm really worried about the interviews, though. I'm the most introvert person you'll ever meet....I wish I were a more charismatic/charming girl.

If you have any suggestions or advice, I'd really appreciate it :)

Thank you!!!

I think you have good chance, very diverse and interesting person with passions. Don’t worry about the interview, just be relaxed and be yourself. Some extra smiling wouldn’t hurt either :)

Thanks mpicz! But I fear that when the interviewer asks me a question I will utter rapidly and indistinctly, or maybe just answer with a “uhm…”

I’m also reaaally self conscious about my accent. Yes, I have a funny portuguese accent that I just can’t get rid off.

Also, are they going to interview my parents? Because even though we’ve lived here in the US for 4 years, they only know how to speak about basic stuff and say “ketchup, please”

Oh and one last question…when they ask me to fill in my race/ethnicity in the papers, am I supposed to fill in latino? Or white? Because I’m really confused…

They will interview your parents but Im not sure what they will do with a language barrier.
I guess you could interpret for them? thats what happened with S’s international friends.

As far as your interview, I would say practice practice practice. Try to anticipate what questions will be asked of you and find someone who will role play interviews with you. Also come prepared with questions yourself.

Not sure what you should put down for the ethnic question…
Ask at your interview???

I think portuguese people have to fill in “white” because they are europeans. Im not sure though.

Thanks! I just checked the ethnic thing and yes, I’m considered white european.

Hi! I applied to Andover, Exeter and Emma Willard too! It seems like we have something in common. Based on your stats (?), Emma Willard would be a shoe-in for you. I agree with mpicz. You are a very diverse person and I think you have a very good chance of getting in to any school you want. It will most likely depend on how many people with the same interests and passions apply to those school.

I think she’d be fine for Andover too. Will you need FA?

I’ll probably need FA (I have fours brothers and two are in college) but my family is considered upper-middle class so I don’t know if we qualify.

Andover is basically the best place for you then, as they are both amazing and need-blind.
