Chance me?

Hi CC,
My SAT results are in, so I thought I'd give it another whack at a Chances thread. Would appreciate your comments :)

International student (Australia)

Reaches: HYPS
Matches: Middlebury (slight reach?), Williams, Amherst
Safeties: University of Alaska Southeast, Eastern Oregon University

SATs
760M
740CR
680W

Taking subject tests in June and ACTs in October. Could retake SAT I in October/November as well.

School academics
No GPA (school - no, strike that - nation doesn't issue GPAs)
School doesn't rank, although I'd estimate top five out of 150
No APs/IB/Honors (school doesn't offer)
Transcript looks good, all As throughout HS up until now (might get one or two Bs for 12th grade... hoping to lift them though).

Course load

All students state-wide must complete a set of five subjects of two years in length (no variance between 11th and 12th grade).

English Literature
Calculus
World History
Politics and Government
Economics

Physics (11th grade only)

Extracurriculars
- State finalist two years running in Model United Nations debating
- National 'Highly Commended' prize in Japanese Embassy essay competition
- State finalist in Veterans' Essay Award (top 25 or so out of hundreds, run by state govt.)
- School debating team each year since 8th grade
- 2009 school chess team (student officer)
- Student Council (one of eight elected members)
- Computational Linguistics Olympiad participant, 2010
- State 'Champion' (First Place) two years in a row (8th and 9th grade) in Chinese as a Second Language State-wide Speaking Competition
- School spelling 'champion' (first place) four years running (I feel like I'm bragging here - it wasn't really that big a deal :) )
- School drama production major cast member, 9th grade
- Debating, Drama and Public Speaking Captain for 1/8 of the school
- Campaigned for local members of parliament (I think they're 'congressmen' and 'state legislators' in the USA) in 2008 and 2009
That's all I can think of, but I think there are more...

Sport
Badminton (top 20 in school - I'm not very good!)
Others (different throughout HS, nothing worth mentioning)

I work at the local shops on the weekend

Pre-HS
National finalist in 'quiz bowl', 2006
National 'Perfect Score' in Mathematics Olympiad, 2006

About me

could somebody please chance me?

I would say your assessments about what is a reach match and safety are fairly good… what do you want us to chance you for if you already have your opinions?

Basically what TJ said. SAT isnt spectacular for the higher ivies, but good nonetheless.

Thanks. I’m taking the subject tests (Lit and Math I) in June and retaking SAT I in Oct. or Nov.

…basically if my opinions are reasonable. It’s like when mothers think their 1800 SAT kids are guaranteed HYPS material. We all like to inflate ourselves :)

Could you explain a little more about this lack of GPA? Do you not get grades? Maybe evaluations or work progress? How does it work?

I’m an international student - nobody here knows what a GPA is. We do get grades (all As since 8th grade, the first year of high school here).
