Chance my application to University Of Texas @ Austin, University Of Texas A&M

Hello everyone,

I am a student from Singapore who has just graduated from high school in 2014 and I am looking forward to apply to the two schools in Spring 2015 or Fall 2014.

My qualifications are

A B B for H2 Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry ( I know it is not really high but lets say in the mid range )

2120 for SAT 1 - 700 for Critical Writing/ 780 Math / 640 Writing

780 for Physics and Maths SAT II

8.0 IELTS ( 8.5 listening/ 9.0 Reading/ 7.5 Speaking/ 7.0 Writing )

1 Year In Band in highschool

2 Years in Mathematics Society in Highschool with events and participations and stuffs

Family monthly Income of let say 5000 USD/ month

My question is what are my chances of getting into the two universities for this year

If I take a gap year, would I need to work on SAT - I think my CR+math is fine for now, but can still improve to perfect score - maybe high 2200 is in my reach.

The same about SAT II.

My Intended Majors

Computer Science/ Engineering

Pertroleum / Mechanical Engineering

Thank you and have a good day

Your SAT scores are good. What’s your GPA?

Well in singapore they just guve out your grades and percentile so I suppose no gpa, but my percentile is like top 30% of my school as it is a top school in Singapore.

You are going to apply when?

Without GPA, I don’t know for sure your stats, but your SAT scores are high. Also, you have good EC’s.

Well I am going to apply for next fall semester 2016, do you think I should grind my SAT more, or anything else? And also what should I do in this gap year period? Community services, do part time jobs ??

Whatever you would like to do that could strong your app. Do something you will like to do not for being impressive. If you want to take the SAT and try your best, then take it. Only if you know that you will get a higher score.

Thank you for all your advice and reply to my topic.

You’re welcome and good luck!

@xholyknight‌ what high school or junior college did you attend in singapore? does it use the british education system?

@almostgotfamous my highschool is National Junior College, and it used the Cambridge system A level.
