Chance my friend? :)

She's looking at UCF next year. She's had an absolutely awful last few years (lots of family issues), but she's decided that the best way to get her life going is to try to get into college. Hooray!!! :)

These are the stats I know:

SAT: 1510 (510 Reading, 460 Math, 520 Writing)
GPA: 3.1 UW, 3.8 W
In-state Resident
ECs: 4 years in an award-winning drama program, tons of volunteer service
Hooks: First generation college student (aka her mom didn't go to college), really hard family life, lots of challenges she had to overcome

At this point, I know her chances aren't as high as we'd like. I'm giving her my SAT study guide book and other helpful books. She's going to start looking at need-based aid and scholarships. Does anyone have suggestions on how to increase her chances?

The most obvious, and probably only, way to increase her chances at this point is to increase her SAT score and get them to UCF asap. She’s about ~150 points below the mid range of the Current Freshman class. I’d say her chances are fair to good if she can hit that mark.

Thank you so much! That’s about what I thought :)

Could someone get in with a 20 on the ACT?

Shelby-I like to keep the hope, but I really don’t think so. Throughout these threads, I’ve never seen someone accepted with ever a 21. I’ve seen a decent amount of people with 22’s…but I always looked at it as the ACT cut off. A 22 ACT and a very good GPA should be okay…but a 20 is bellow national average, so I’m not sure:(

The Freshman class had less than 10 people with an ACT of 20 or below. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.
