Chance my son Illinois resident, Computer Science + Stats at [UIUC's] Liberal Arts College [3.6 GPA, 1580 SAT]

Seems like the OP means the statistics + CS major at UIUC, which is in UIUC’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

There are many fine CS schools. I’ll assume you mean big schools - not small (LACs).

But budget matters. Let’s say the student doesn’t get into UIUC - there’s lots of great programs at every budget. Can you afford $20k, $59k, $90k? No matter what you can afford, what do you want to afford or are you willing to spend ?

Is the student open to various geographies ? You prefer the Midwest but what does the student ?

We need more. There’s probably 100+ schools that will work for CS but there’s not much we’ve been given to go on.

Job opportunities will come from the student having grit - but you can look at school like Iowa State, Kansas State, U Kansas, UMN (maybe), Missouri Science and Tech, Miami Ohio, U Cincinnati, Pitt, Kentucky, Mizzou, SIU Carbondale, Indiana U.

When you say you can pay anything if it’s worth it - that might be 5 schools but it’s not realistic with schools this student likely could get into.

You can do like 1500 Illinoisans and go to Alabama at $30.5k off $33k tuition and be in as good as shape as any school above for maybe $18k all in. A little farther but likely a similar result at a big savings.

Best of luck.
