Chance my transfer to Indiana-Bloomington

I currently attend a Chicago Community college, and like many transfers to Indiana from Chicago, my goal is Kelley. I'm going to keep this real short.

-3.37 GPA (One class on there is a 6 credit hour course in a technical field, specifically an EMT course that I recieved a C in. I know it won't transfer, so if anyone knows about cumululative GPA vs. transferable GPA, please share, because without that class my GPA jumps to 3.62)
-total of 31 completed credit to date, including a couple that I knwo will not transfer. So I'll still be an incoming sophmore at the start of next year.
-as far as a grade trend goes, I have improved emery semester (a total of 3), recieveing all A's in 4 classes (12 cr. hours) last semester.
-EC's: senator in Student Government (or at least thats the title I will have), volunteer hours, and work (had to work 35+ hours to pay for college out of pocket)
-Hispanic, if that helps.

That's all really. It honestly seems like GPA is the most important factor judging by the app. For EC's it didn't even ask me how long I had been involved in said activities, which hurt and help. Student Government is something I'm just getting involved with this semester. As for work, i was working 35+ hours because I had to pay for college all out of pocket. This seems like it would have been a plus for me if, as this was the semester I recieved all A's in which shows im dedicated to school at this point, and can manage time well. Oh well. So based on my info, do I have a shot of getting in?

I think you’re in. I applied as a transfer as well with a 3.18 GPA, though I haven’t been accepted just yet, I spoke to an advisor that said a student needs a 2.75 GPA to be competitive for transfer admission. I did get an e-mail asking for my to send a statement of activities while not enrolled in school. I’m not sure if this is common but, if it happens to you it’s a good way to state some nice things you’ve done. Keep it simple though  Anyways, I think you have a pretty good chance. Good Luck!

As for the transfer GPA, IU does not take your GPA from previous schools. It’s used only for admission purposes and then it restarts upon your enrollment at the schools.

Thanks for the response man, so the advisor said 2.75 is competitive even for out of state students? That sounds good to me then. Make sure you keep me posted on your status and let me know if you’re accepted. When did you apply?

Oh and yea, I know the GPA starts over once at a new university, but my question was more if the admissions comittee factors a class that won’t transfer into the GPA, or if they recalculate your GPA based on transferable courses and make a decision there. I believe they look at the whole GPA regardless, but still worth asking.
