I posted this in another sub forum, but figured some may only check here rather than there, and vice versa.

I currently attend a Chicago Community college, and like many transfers to Indiana from Chicago, my goal is Kelley. I'm going to keep this real short.

-3.37 GPA (One class on there is a 6 credit hour course in a technical field, specifically an EMT course that I recieved a C in. I know it won't transfer, so if anyone knows about cumululative GPA vs. transferable GPA, please share, because without that class my GPA jumps to 3.62)
-total of 31 completed credit to date, including a couple that I knwo will not transfer. So I'll still be an incoming sophmore at the start of next year.
-as far as a grade trend goes, I have improved emery semester (a total of 3), recieveing all A's in 4 classes (12 cr. hours) last semester.
-EC's: senator in Student Government (or at least thats the title I will have), volunteer hours, and work (had to work 35+ hours to pay for college out of pocket)
-Hispanic, if that helps.

That's all really. It honestly seems like GPA is the most important factor judging by the app. For EC's it didn't even ask me how long I had been involved in said activities, which hurt and help. Student Government is something I'm just getting involved with this semester. As for work, i was working 35+ hours because I had to pay for college all out of pocket. This seems like it would have been a plus for me if, as this was the semester I recieved all A's in which shows im dedicated to school at this point, and can manage time well. Oh well. So based on my info, do I have a shot of getting in?

I think you have a good shot. You will not be admitted to a specific college for sure as you have less than 26 transferable hours. Once you get into IU then you can earn a spot at Kelley.

thanks for the response guys, hadnt been able to check back. If i get in I’ll probably make sure to talk to an advisor then to ensure I’m taking the best possible route to get into Kelley, because if I don’t it could turn out pretty bad.

Quick question to you IU guys, does GPA transfer to IU? As a Boilermaker myself, I find this to be an odd concept as Purdue only transfers credits, not grades. Thanks.

P.S.–Trying soooo hard not to get a dig in on that Purdue v. IU game Wed. night. :)

hi im a junior with a 3.8 with no honors or ap…i do community service and i play soccer for 3 years so far in high school i am out of state and havent taken sat or act yet based on my gpa can i get into IU or kelley even though im not taking honors classes but because i have a high gpa without them? Thanks for the help plz reply

Greetings jhertzberg! I am currently a undergrad student at IU and I believe that you have a great chance at getting into IU with that GPA. Considering the lack of honors classes, that wont necessarily be a bad thing since your GPA is so high. The GPA average in IU for incoming freshmen is lower than what you have for sure. SAT score is not too important for IU and from what I last remember when I applied, they don’t even take the writing score into consideration. It’s great that you have volunteer experience and extracurricular activities. I would highly recommend to get help on your personal statement because it can actually play a significant factor into the admission officers’ decision. Having a fantastic personal statement will definitely work in your favor. You most likely will not be direct admit into Kelley as your lack of honors classes will work against you in that situation. They also require a relatively high SAT score and if you don’t meet the minimum, then it’s basically a no-go. You can be admitted into IU and then try to get into Kelley though. You will have to complete certain classes with B (not B-) in all of your classes. That will only cover the minimum requirements as they can still reject you as Kelley is becoming more competitive every year. In that case, you would have to simply try to take more business classes and prove to them that you can succeed at the school. So basically, I would suggest you try to get straight As at least until you’re admitted into the school.

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible as Kelley requires you to spend one semester on the IU campus. Do very well that semester and complete the required courses with very good grades and you’ll have a good chance at getting in as long as your grades at your current university are good also. If not, they will probably want you to spend a year at the school to really show that you’re driven to study at Kelley. They have strict policies as they need to retain their reputation as one of the best business schools in the nation.
