Chance of a published novelist?

Hi i posted this at the yale forum first but i copy pasted it here to get a broader perspective.

My friend is applying to yale, harvard, and Upenn and is about to get locally published (in pakistan), and might also get published in the states.

His grades this year were not the best..basically a 3.2 GPA..
although in his previous years they were about 3.8-3.9
note that we dont really have a GPA/ranking system here this is just a rough estimate..
he's also council member of debates and VP of World Affais Society. He's also a prefect (an unelected student council position)
It is important to know that he is taking courses that are going to make up his 3.2 GPA...but they'll know its a re-take.

I on the other hand have been maintaining a 4.0 GPA all over....
and we're both applying to the same ivies (yale harvard and Upenn)
i have directed a play, and am in the council member of the photography society and the council member of writer's forum.

Independently do eitheir of us stand a chance? and which one of us stand a better chance?

while browing through the forum i realized that my EC's are weak..and maybe the novelist's are too.

but still would like to hear from u guys.

Having a novel published is of course an impressive EC. It's hard to say which of you has a 'better' chance, a lot of that comes down to what your teachers have to say about each of you in their recommendations, as well as what your personal essays are like. Independently, yes you both do have a chance at all those schools.

hmm..any more feedbacks?
