Hey guys I know admission decision isn't far away but Im an OOS applicant and very nervous that I wont get in, my parents are moving to florida next year and would like me to attend either FSU or U of F after i graduate this June so i can get in state tuition. I just want to get another opinion so that if i dont have a great chance ill know now and wont be too upset if i dont get in haha. If you have an opinion on my chance for U of F I welcome that too although maybe this isnt the right forum for gator talk, anyway without further ado...

What is your FSU Gpa and I will be able to give you a more valid guess…

You should be fine just based off that. Strong course rigor and a high GPA is the first two requirements.

In this case, FSU GPA won’t really matter. It’s going to be a 4.0 or so minimum.

I could definitely respond with my FSU gpa, I just have no idea how to calculate that. Also Ive heard that OOS applicants have a very hard time getting into either of these florida schools, have you heard anything about that?

Hi! I think that FSU does hold OOS applicants to a more difficult standard (not sure how much of a difference it makes.) However, with your SAT score and GPA I think that you have a good chance, and if you were applying from instate I think you would’ve definitely gotten in! UF on the other hand is a bit harder to get into… so I’m not really sure. If you for sure want to go to a school in Florida I would look into UCF and USF too, just to be safe.

I think you should be OK stats wise. However you will not qualify for in state tuition until your parents can prove residency for a full year prior to the year you plan on paying in state rates.

Assuming that I do get in, Ive heard that you can apply for instate tuition assuming you meet certain criteria, I think like a 3.5 UW and a 30ACT-ish. Has anyone else heard this/know if its true? Is there time to take/send a better score if I took it again?

There’s two different out-of-state tuition reduction waivers available: one that cuts the tuition completely down to in-state levels, and one that cuts the difference in half.

You might be able to get one of the 50% waivers based off your stats. I would be inclined to say you could probably take the ACT again and up your score a point or two, which would really help towards that waiver. However, I don’t know if FSU would accept another set of scores if they accept you.
