chance of admission?

I have a 4.595 gpa, ranked 5 out of 816, 1800 SAT, 23 act, and have been on varsity cross country / varsity track and field for the past two years. anyone have an idea of what kind of shot i have to get in ?

your gpa seems way high but your sat/act very low. whats your weighted gpa

I would assume that is a weighted GPA. The rank looks great, but the SAT is definitely a problem. I would re-take the SAT if you still have time because a better score could make the difference. Also, did you take the hardest course load? Right now I would say that ND is a reach because of your test scores, sorry to say!

Damn a 4.6 GPA.... that is impossible at my school (literally)..........are you a junior or a senior? is that your first time taking the sat?

thanks for the replies guys.. im a senior and 2nd time taking SAT..i have taken the hardest courses offered at our school (AP classes: chemistry, us history, environmental science, biology, government, literature, and calculus. and a smattering of other honors classes) and have varsity scholar athlete stuff (If that means anything). my SATs are probably going to stay that way, would good recs and essays help my cause or am i helpless?

your not helpless.... your obviously incredibly intelligent........what about the ACT?...... after I took the ACT i thought that the ACT was testing on what you have learned as the sat was trying to trick you.......i think you still have time and you should give it a shot

i agree, i think the act is better for the straight a student who gets his grades just working really hard and studying... the sat, to me, was way harder and i scored much lower...

You sound like someone who would benefit from genuine ACT or SAT prep. Given your courseload and GPA, you display academic strength. As a cross country runner (good for you--my kids have done that, too! :) ), you know that the gist of it is not only being in shape, but having the savvy to know how to run the course. The ACT and SAT are just another course to run; you need to learn the inside scoop and train to master it. It's doable. Probably not by early action deadline at this point, but certainly by regular deadline.

That being said, there are lots of ACT and SAT prep options out there, making all kinds of claims...and all kinds of money. We were unimpressed with ACT's online prep offered by ACT itself. Don't know how Kaplan or Sylvan does. There are probably people online who know which prep options are the best....

Attack it like a wicked 5K, and you'll be amazed with what you can pull off!

umm.. as far as the preps go as dd stated.... I just completed Princeton Review's Total Prep for High School Juniors and Seniors... or (P.R.T.P.F.H.S.J.A.S) ummmm... it was really helpful...... I thinks its best for kids who are around 500's and help them to get to 650's.. thats basically what happened to me.... but I dont think their class is capable of getting someone to 700+s but I would look into Princeton Reviews one on one tutoring....... pero its very very very very expensive... if you decide to go with the latter.. expect to pay somewhere around 2 grand... the class itself is 12 hundred...
Good Luck with your college apps!
