Chance of getting into UC Davis w/ going for a bio major

So I am applying to UC Davis and in my application, I’ll be stating that I’m going for a biology major. I know this will lower my chances of getting in, but with these stats, what are my chances of getting into UCD?

Weighted GPA: 4.3
Unweighted GPA: 3.7
ACT: 30
9 AP classes and 1 honors class since sophomore year

However, my main issue is my ECs. I have only joined 3 clubs, and only will have about 150 hours of volunteering. I’m hoping they don’t hurt my chances:
Best Buddies Club (2 Years)
Debate Club (2 Years)
Character Counts Club (1 Year)
4 years on the tennis team (2 years varsity)
Volunteer at Upper Newport Bay habitat restorations (20 hours)
Volunteer at hospital (100-120 hours)

Based on this info, could i get into UCD while applying to major in biology?

you have nothing to worry about! i really feel that you’re a strong candidate to get into UC Davis. and yes the biological science at davis is harder to get into, but i still feel that you will easily make it! tell us your results when you find out!

Hey scderek4! We have very similar stats, and I think we will get in because seniors who attended my high school last year (with similar stats) got in. I applied for Bio as well  Good luck, maybe we will see each other in the fall!

Woah, weird. Like, MissySanoli, we have similar stats. In fact, I’m in almost the exact same boat as you. I’m applying as a bio major (Neurobiology, Physiology, and behavior) with a 4.3 weighted GPA (3.8 Unweighted GPA) and a 2020 SAT (which is pretty close to your 30 on the ACT). I’ve also taken 9 AP/IB classes, and one honors since sophomore year. And, like you, ECs are the weak spot on my app, and it’s worrying me.

I can’t predict my chances, so I feel like I can’t really predict yours, but I think (at the very least) we have a shot. Hopefully, come March, we both will have some good news. I read in the LA Times a few weeks ago that Davis will be sending acceptances to 7% more students than last year, so that gives me some hope. :)

Here is, but one benchmark from last year. D got in the College of Biological Sciences (CBS) with a SAT Score of 2180 and an Unweighted Cumulative GPA of 3.8755. She got in with Regents Scholarship. Her ECs were nothing spectacular, just the average volunteer work. I am really not sure a large school like UCD pays that much attention to ECs. Just my 2 cents to those that are anxiously waiting for the Acceptance Letter. Best Wishes!!

In less than a month we shall know! I honestly think that we have a great shot, but still, let’s not get our hopes way up there.

I got in with lower numbers and better ECs and my roommate had even lower numbers and ECs comparable to mine and we both got in  It’s a bit of a crapshoot sometimes, but I think you should have no problem getting in. Good luck!
