Chance Please

GPA: 3.1
SAT: 2110 (730 M) (700 Wr) (680 Cr)
Few extra curriculars and low GPA (a lot of my time was dedicated to rehabilitating a serious back injury, which left me incapable of participating in athletics) which I mentioned in my essay
Hopefully solid recs.
I'm aware of how weak my GPA is and reality is setting in as I have already been denied from a few schools I thought I could get into (northeastern)
Any input is appreciated thanks

Your GPA is low, but since you mentioned it in your essay it should be alright. You might want your counselor to explain it a more little in depth…? Can you give your courseload/AP scores? And examples/leadership/awards for your ECs would help too.

No AP’s at all. The only possible positive that can be taken from my high school years would be an upward trend in GPA: Freshmen year 2.79 up to about a 3.85 senior year with calculus, physics and a full shcedule. I don’t know how much that will matter, if at all, but I didn’t make much effort until about this year.

and my counselor elaborated on the medical issues I believe

Did you apply RD?

I think UMD is a high reach, but a steady upward trend will catch their eye. No APs might set you at a disadvantage though. To be honest, the chances are slim but it is still possible. Were your essays particularity good?

Yes, so my low chances would be significantly lower than if I applied early?

To slimone: I recieved compliments from those who read it among my school staff but I’m not terribly confident in my writing ability so I wouldn’t say it’s anything “special”

Yes. RD acceptances make up only 10% of the total acceptances at UMD. I would say based on your stats and the fact you applied RD, you’re borderline. Good luck and I hope you make it in though!

Thank you for your input and positive wishes I’ll update once I get a decision

Did you get in?

Yes, I got an acceptance letter about a week ago and i’m visiting over spring break!

Congratulations!

Thank you, Anyone else get it from the Northeast on here?
