major: European studies and or political science ( might do a double or a minor)
gpa:2.81
igetc:done
preqs: poli sci done, euro , a few missing
schools: ucla and uci.

do u hav at least tap 4 la? even w/ tap bad chance

uci did u tag? w/o tag i’m not sure u have a gd chance lol

well i mean i applied to a few schools last year w/o tag and got in. and the major i am applying to isnt popular at all. i know ucla is a REACH!!! but i mean there are always those people.

rather low chance, because the minimum is a 3.0 gpa. But anythings possible :)

Nice. What schools did you get into last year? And with what GPA?

i got into sdsu, ucsc, ucr and csun. all under poli sc major and with a 2.7

ill have a 2.9 by the end of the fall term. and at least a 3.0 by winter…

No Chance…

On another note, I heard Burger King was hiring…

Do you have some extraordinary story to tell? And I mean extraordinary…

If not… If you can get your GPA to a 3.0 you’ll be ok for UCI but not for LA

uhmm not really amazing!! but i went to kenya over summer and volunteered in an orphanage… but only for a couple days while i was in Nairobi.

on a side note… gpa isnt the only thing schools look at. as i’ve said before i’ve gotten into schools before. college confidential isnt for ■■■■■■■■.

You’re right it isn’t. But it’s the biggest piece of the pie. It’s like a really big piece. A really big piece. And extracurriculars are pretty small. Unless you’ve done something AMAZING.

I think UCLA’s average poli sci admit’s GPA was something like 3.7 or 3.8? Not sure.

lol comon guys! i know obviously with my gpa ucla is a reachhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
tbh i like irvines euro studies program more then i like uclas but uclas poli sci owns.

You say that GPA isn’t the only thing schools at. While you are right about that, this is mostly true in the case of private universities and schools whose total student population is less than, say, 10,000. However, the UCs you mentioned receive tens of thousands of applications each year. UCLA alone is expected to exceed 50,000 this next season, and UCI’s popularity is ever increasing. If I were you, I’d make sure to apply to other “safety” UCs within the reach for students with your GPA, namely UC Merced, Riverside, Santa Cruz.

Have you considered privates as well?

no yea im planning on applying to ucr, sdsu, sfsu and uci and maybe ucla. idk yet tho.

Priya: I’m telling you from experience that top tier schools like UCLA care very much (like 95%) on your GPA and grade trends. And not to be rude or anything, but you’re story isn’t amazing; it’s very credible and its a great thing but you’ll need more to even consider looking twice…

Source: I had a 3.50 GPA (finished all prereqs and IGETC) when I applied to UCLA and UCB didn’t get in. I was president of the engineering club and math club at my CC. Over 200+ hrs of community service and volunteer work (including tutoring), worked part time since high school, interned one summer at an engineering firm (Hunsakers and Co.), and was diagnosed with cancer one year ago when I was 20 (I mentioned this on my statements and sent letters and doctors notes to the schools too). When I called UCLA and UCB and asked why I didn’t get in, they “my GPA wasn’t competitive”.

By the way, if I were you I wouldn’t apply to SDSU or UCLA at all - this is literally giving away your money. I wouldn’t apply to UCI unless you can get above a 3.0 by the end of fall. I would say you’re a safe bet for at least half of these schools: UCR, UCM, UCSC, SFSU, and most other mid tier CSU’s

@lmendoza: Thank you for that post. Seems like this dude/chick just wants people to give him/her hope… when he/she shouldnt really have any. YOUR EC’s are great and the whole cancer thing is compelling (hope you have or will beat it, btw… the cancer that is) and STILL you were rejected because of your academic performance.

You will not get into UCLA or UCI, priya. Sorry but you should have dedicated yourself. End of post.

yeah i know that ucla is a far reach but you know what there are always special cases. and i too have gone through the process. i was supposed to transfer this year, i even turned in my sir and paid for housing at ucr. anyways what you"re saying obviously makes sense tbh I’m not looking at even getting into ucla but its just the fact of knowing i gave it a shot you know?
as far as sdsu i was admitted last year so i cant imagine why i wouldn’t this year. uci is pretty competitive as well but not for European studies major… i think like 14 people applied last fall so i mean again i still have a small shot.but yeah im still going to apply to ucr again.
but thanks for the help! I am very appreciative of the fact that you were in no way, shape or form demeaning while giving me info. THANK YOU!!

i was dedicated… not everyone can be straight A students. I worked my way up from the bottom of the barrel English and math level courses thats an extra 6 courses on top of igetc and pre reqs for my major all in 2 years. i took 3 classes over winter session,a 4-week period,11 units, had class m-f 8am till 10 pm. and ive never taken less than 16 units as well as working. please dont make assumptions about how “dedicated i am”… like i said not everyone can be a straight A 4.0 robot. yeah I could have worked harder and got better grades but i know i worked hard.
