MANY THANKS.
A general/broad chance explanation is sufficient - the schools I will be applying to will be the UCs (UCLA, UCB), Ivies (Stanford), and other privates (Caltech, USC).

Well he’ll definitely be an AP Scholar with Honors. Are you going to be a NM semifinalist, perhaps? I think you’re fine at UCLA and UCB because of your stats and such.

About Stanford/Caltech… I assume that you’re leaning towards a major in math/science if you’re applying to Caltech, correct? Have you done any kind of math/science stuff outside of school? A lot of kids applying to those schools will have done stuff like research internships, USAMO, USNCO, etc. Stuff like that would really help you!

You’re very solid for the UCs. The only way you would have a problem is if you’re applying to Berkeley’s EECS or BioE programs, because I’ve seen some very good applicants like you rejected from those two particular programs. You’re also fine for USC, but Caltech is a reach due to your lack of math/science ECs. Stanford is a reach for everyone.

Ivies, Cal Tech, and Stanford will be reaches based on SAT I and SAT II (a 750 math on the SAT II is a fairly low score for the top schools. I think an 800 is 89th percentile).

Hopefully, you have some good ECs and awards to give you a boost at the top schools.
