Chance specifically for UC Berkeley L&S for an Out of State Student (Be Honest)

This was in the Berkeley section, but I figured it fits in here...

I do not think I apply directly into Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or Operations Research and Management when I apply to L&S (Leeters and Science). But I intend to express my academic interests in my application (unless I shouldn't), so here is a summary of what I have done in high school. Please do chance me to the best of your ability. I want you to be honest, to the point of it even being mean even.

The UCs do not accept teacher/counselor recommendations. You definitely have a chance, especially if your UC-weighted GPA is above your school-weighted. It is not a sure thing for you, though. I might add Davis and San Diego. My son got into them with lower stats than yours (Berkeley rejected him) from out-of-state.

@woogzmama If I used the calculator right, my UC gpa is 4.23 (before senior year classes and not counting PE/Health, and I did not count my honors classes for the extra point since I am out of state, but I did count my AP classes). How would you say my chances were including that information?

UC’s are very picky with out state students. I’m from California and the closest school to me is UCSD. I know many students at UCSD and 75% of them are Californians. Your GPA is the minimum for what Berkeley asks for. Check out UC freshman profile to see what the stats were for this year. My goal is also to get into Berkeley or LA.

yikes - Your chances are respectable, but far from certain. Sadie - my son got into UCSD with an unweighted GPA of 3.3-3.4, but a UC-weighted GPA of just over 4.0 (maybe 4.1). His composite ACT was 31; his SAT was 2060. The OP has better stats, which means that his chances are better than my son’s were. My son was rejected from Berkeley, but accepted to UCSD (generally ranked the third most-selective UC, after Berkeley and UCLA), so I will stand by my assessment. If the OP is genuinely interested in UCs, he/she should consider adding UCSD and UCSB.
