Chance thread for a freaking out ED engineering applicant

want to know my chance for cornell engineering ED

I am a legacy applicant

School: The Hotchkiss School, one of the most prestigious in the nation, search the prep school admission forum for hotchkiss and you will see…

biggest problem (explained by GC): I didnt go to a international school when I was in hong kong, therefore my english and spanish grade sucked first year…and she also highlighted my upswing trend…

my sophomore year: top 50% …junior year: top 30%

SAT I
Math 800 CR 650 (1450) cornell doesnt care about writing it’s 700 btw
SAT II
MAth2c 800 Chem 800 Physics 760
Toefl: 297
APs
Calc AB(10th grade year): 5
Physics B(10th grade year) :5

Mu Alpha Theta - President
OISCA (NGO chartered by UN) - webmaster
Math Lab Peer to Peer math Help - founder/Head
Middleschool Mentoring - Head, Mentor
School IT department - Computer Tech Assistant
Orchestra - Violin

(I only listed 8 as allowed in the spaces on common app, didnt want to attach extra piece of paper and stack it up with random ECs, as my college advisor told me…dont show that you are a mile wide and an inch deep)

Awards:

AMC/AIME scores : AMC 120 AIME: 9/15
combined index: 210 (cut off for math olympiad :217)

Qualified for the supportive program for the Exceptionally gifted student by the HONG KONG Education department…

PSAT commended…AP scholar

Recommendations:
1 amazing rec from my math teacher who taught me multivar and linear algebra junior year…she probably talks about my passion in math and how I self studied for AP Calc and jumped a year…she also knows me well in person.she’s also my advisor for mathclub and math team

1 decent rec from my spanish teacher who saw my spanish grade go from a C+ to A- from sophomore to junior year…and then go on to study abroad in summer

GC rec is decent

1 stellar rec from the secretary general of a UN chartered NGO as I was a webmaster, he talks about how i approached big corporations, wrote proposals and landed 2 lucritive webbanner sponsorship for the website…(maybe a hook?)

took multivar and linear junior year…plus almost qualified for USAMO, dont know whether this help for engineering …and hopefully legacy helps with ED

anyway cumilative GPA is 3.2 breakdown is sophomore 3.1, junior 3.3 senior so far 3.7 unweighted
school obviously doesnt rank, up till junior year I am in top 35%

higher higher

I'm in a similar position with you, low grades and high sat scores and AP scores. For some reason everyone seems to think we're slackers and don't deserve a good life, let alone a good education right?
But I'm no legacy...
I've heard that Cornell treats their legacies well, even when they're unqualified, while you ARE qualified!
your relationship with mathematics is very unique, it is hard to self study AP exams, and very impressive to know multivariable calculus by junior year.
your extracurriculars also demonstrate that you have an aesthetic side (violin)as well as a global awareness-
I think that you're probably a talented person with tons of potential.
I imagine that they're experienced enough at Cornell to see that as well,
and while other here would crucify me if I said you had a good chance
(Nobody but nobody has a good chance at any place where they would flourish! that's justice, right?)...um, I think the unspeakable.
Apply,
with hopes.
If not Cornell, then certainly another very good school.
If yes Cornell, congratulations.

Holy crap... I'm starting to think that barely any of the Cornell engineering EDers scored below a 750 on SAT II Science.

This is depressing :(

i thought 750 is standard.... for cornell engineering for the math and science SATIIs

Not a strong chance if it were Arts, but I expect you'll have good news in two weeks at Engineering. Best wishes.

With your prep school academic background and good scores, I think you're in Cornell ED. No need to worry so much.

up up u pu up upu upu

Are you male or female? If female, I'd pretty much peg you as a guarantee what with your nice subject tests and prep school repute.

Male? Then you're still probably going to get in. Get off this board and go post in the answer the next question thread. Calm down.

male...so i m screwed?

good shot!

lol i m freaking out so bumping it up again

Dude. You're in. Please go to a different thread and post.

Freaking out will NOT do you any good. Just consider that (looking at your school's matriculation list) you are part of a legacy of Hotchkiss grads that will be attending a great school. Factoring in your strong test scores, why worry?

it's not my fault that i freak out..it's the freaking college process,
more opinions pls

13 more days

I wouldn't be freaking out if I were you.
