I've noticed that a lot of the chance threads don't make any sense on CC. You see ones that are telling applicants with weaker stats that they can get into ridiculously selective schools, and then you see others telling outstanding applicants that they aren't good enough. Do people who chance others actually have an idea of what goes on, or are they just guessing? I also have a sneaking suspicion that some people undermine others' achievements just to make them feel bad. Maybe it's jealousy? I don't know. Should I trust chance threads?

Most people are just guessing. And people put others down to make themselves feel better. I personally think they can’t be trusted at all, and are completely pointless. Everything they need to know they can find on college websites and Common Data Sets, rather than some random person on the Internet. That’s just my opinion, however.

^^^ This.

But I made a chance thread anyway, because having a real, live person reply to you is more convincing and reassuring than letting data comparisons tell you. If you make one, do it for the sake of relieving anxieties.

^ I agree.
